What are your impressions of current production EAA Witness?
« on: January 15, 2019, 01:43:48 AM »
"Needing" a DA/SA in 10mm, I was going to opt for the Springfield Armory one until I saw this on Buds for a good price.

I heard these had reliability problems in the past.  I am looking for a woods and HD gun that I can shoot hot Underwoods and Buffalo Bores out of.  Is this that kind of gun?

I don't know too much about them other than general positive comments about them. I am wary of the price point, seems too good to be true.

Are these reliable shooters that can be depended on?

Thanks for your feedback!

I own several Tanfoglio, but nothing in 10..... 40 & 45 being the most powerful.  I've never had any issues except some 9mm have shot low with fixed sights.  10 might be a little much for home nightstand gun.  If your bullet goes thru the  wall into the house next door....you're doing time.

Most of the reliability issues that Tanfoglios have had in the past were due to poor magazine design.

Ever since MecGar started making the factory magazines, things have been pretty good.

I have the Elite Match and the Stock III in 10mm. Also have the Elite Match in 9mm and the Stock I in .45.  All of them are incredible guns, amazing accuracy and flawless functioning.

I was hoping you guys would talk me out of it. :)

Seriously thanks for the answers here! I don't like the looks of the standard grips. Do these take CZ-75 grips or are you stuck with a small selection of grips for this model? Looks like the screw is in a different spot so I guess there's my answer. Thanks again!

Great woods gun BUT please be a responsible firearms owner and do not use it for HD unless you actually live in the woods with no neighbors around you

Thanks for the feedback as well as the caution for HD.  On that note does anyone offer frangible 10mm ammo?

Probably everything you need to know, here:  https://www.luckygunner.com/labs/10mm-auto-self-defense-ammo-ballistic-gel-tests/

As to the original question, the current production Tanfoglio Pistols are of very high quality and reliability.
That said, with ANY make of handgun, put at least 500 rounds through it, before trusting it for serious social concerns.

Also, if you plan on running some really hot 10mm through any handgun, you just might wish to get a Sprinco or DPM Recoil Reducer for it.
Back a couple of Decades, I ran a Sprinco unit for 10mm in my .45 Witness, when I was playing with the .45 Super.
Nowadays, the plain .45 ACP is enough gun for me, and most of the time I carry a 9mm.

For all of those killed by a 9mm: "Get up! You are not dead! You were shot with a useless cartridge!"

CZ 97 grips are a better fit for the large frame Witness pistols, but may require a little fitting.

Most of the large frame Tanfoglio grips should work but they won't go all the way to the bottom.

The copper gun grips will though.
