Scorpion Carbine cleaning vs Ruger PC Carbine
« on: August 01, 2018, 06:58:59 AM »
I own a Scorpion Carbine and more recently a Ruger PC Carbine

Just wanted to share how much better the Scorpion was designed for field maintenance. Basically all you have to do is slide out one retained pin to get to the entire action.

The Ruger PC Carbine is a nightmare compared to this. You need a hex key, inch / pound torque wrench, push out multiple loose pins, and lord forbid that the recoil spring retainer doesn't go flying off like mine just did when removing the bolt.

I do like the use of Glock mags though in the Ruger, but would never want to maintain it out in field conditions.

*(My opinion only.)

I handle lots of guns, but have never liked a single Ruger product that I have seen/handled/shot.  Can not explain why.  Something just does not work for me.  Years ago owned a 10-22.  It was OK but traded it off.

Just my opinion so no big fight required here.

Once I "adapted" my CZ Scorp to my personal preferences have been very happy.

Thank you John,

The #1 reason I purchased the Ruger 2 months ago was for a 50 state legal 9mm carbine. I even got the model without muzzle threading to be New York state legal. Getting close to retirement and fun travel. It's been 100% reliable and very accurate, but it's no Scorpion.

I run and gun with my Scorpion in USPSA PCC division. Wow, just wow, what a firearm.

I owned a Ruger PCC.  It was a great platform.  But as the OP mentions cleaning it was a PITA.  You need an hex wrench to properly clean it.  Also you need a different size hex wrench to remove the bolt.  Not a deal breaker but not convenient.  The up side it the barrel is removable so that step of the process is much easier.   The modular bolt of the PCC might one day allow for a caliber change with a new barrel but that added more parts to the bolt.  More to go wrong or possibly lose IMHO.  In the end the PCC didnt do anything that my CZ and MP5 clone don't do.  In fact it was more a novelty and convenient that it acceptect Glock mags.  It is easier than the MP5 to mount and optic but it's a tie with Cz in this respect.  I sold the PCC and have not regretted it.  It is a great  platform and the cost of entry is appealing.  Cleaning the Cz is much easier and overall less complicated and time comsuming.
