Buying sights, need a little info.
« on: August 25, 2017, 10:57:59 PM »
Okay, so I have 50 buckaroos to throw at my race gun this upcoming week. What I'm thinking is, I'm going to buy a fiber optic front sight, the tools to install, and so on from CZC, then buy an 8.5# Mainspring for competition use from CGW along with a replacement TRS (Not that I need another one yet.)

Here's some info that might help:

My CZ has a #4 rear sight.

It shoots dead on with whatever sight it has on the front, which I'm not sure what it is. I assume all CZ 75B front sights are the same.

What I'm considering, is buying JUST a front sight for now, and buying an HTAC rear sight next month. As I understand it, the HTAC reccommends a 6.5MM Front sight post for the CZ 75B and claims it will shoot to point of aim.

If I buy just that 6.5MM sight, and use it with the stock rear, is it going to shoot POA? Or am I going to be shooting low/high?

Do I need to take off my front sight and measure, or just order it and do the HTAC rear regardless of results?
I am long winded. Ask me what my favorite gun is, I'll write you a novel. Hell, I have trouble deciding what gun to grab for when the dogs bark at night :o.

You'll be shooting low with a stock 75B rear.

With the 8+# hammer spring,  you may not want the reduced power trigger spring...or not.  My 75 Shadow pull really goes light in SA with the RP trigger spring,  too light for me.  With the stock TS mine is well under 3# ... a friend measured it and I believe it was 2.6 pounds..  Getting the RP spring gives you the option to go back to stock if you don't like the pull.

OOPs.  If you have the "stock hammer"  I don't know what the pull be.  The comp. hammer makes a huge difference.

The factory front is 5.5mm.  Same height on almost all 75 series guns.  The rear sight is what is changed to fix POA.

You'll be shooting low with a stock 75B rear.

bleep. Might still do it one part at a time and just focus on getting used to using a red FO sight.

I already installed a CGW SRS-1 kit, and replaced the stock TRS with the the RP-TRS a LONG time ago. The RP-TRS alone dropped my trigger pull from the factory a good half pound maybe more. I won't be buying factory TRSs again, they break much easier. As far as I can tell, the RP-TRS is the only thing in the gun that affects trigger reset, as I've dropped to a 13 pound main spring, and borrowed an 11 pound main spring and the trigger return was just as fast with both, so no reason to switch back to the stock TRS.

The factory front is 5.5mm.  Same height on almost all 75 series guns.  The rear sight is what is changed to fix POA.

So SHOULD I, or should I not trust CZC's observation that a 6.5MM front sight and the HTAC rear should be used together?

If you are only going to change the front and use the factory rear for now, you will need a 5.5mm front sight.

Not sure about the HTAC setup.

What CGW said is no doubt true,  but that was buying "both" front & rear  matching sights.
With mixed sights,  buyIng just the front sight won't match up with the factory rear.

The 6.5mm will not work with the factory rear.  It has to be a 5.5mm front to work with the factory rear.

If the front sight is the only thing being replaced, measure what you have for height, go to Dawsons web site and find a suitable replacement. If POI isn't what it should be now is the time to make adjustments either shorter or higher. Dawson carries sight sets that are guaranteed to be POA = POI or they will make it right. Just another option.

You can use the 5.5 with the standard TAC sight, just not the H-tac because it is 1mm taller.

What's the benefits of the H-Tac over the standard TAC sight?

Nevermind scratch that, I just ordered 'em. Screw it.
