CZ 75B Fitting Magazine Release + Safety
« on: September 25, 2017, 05:17:09 PM »
Hi guys, long time reader about to start my first big project. Wanted to run some things by you guys first.

I?m a lefty with a CZ 75B. It has the ?old? style magazine release that cannot be swapped. It also only has the LHS safety. I plan to do the following:

1. File out the magazine release so that it can use the ?new? style reversible magazine release. Anyone have experience with this / knows if this will work?

2. File out the safety hole on the right side of the frame so that it will accept an ambi safety. Anyone have experience with this / knows if this will work?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Very excited to start!

I'd give CGW and CZ Custom a call and tell them what you'd like done. If it can be done they'll be able to do it otherwise I see a ruined frame in your future.

You could start looking for a CZ 85B.  They are basically a CZ 75 with ambidextrous thumb safeties and slide release levers.  Either buy the CZ 85B and keep both pistols, or trade the CZ 75B on the 85, or sell the 75 and put the money towards the 85.

The 85 has been discontinued by CZ but they can still be found/bought for years to come.

Left side (like a CZ 75)

Right side with the same controls

Something to consider.  Oh, this is an old one.  It looks a lot better after it was refinished.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Thanks M1A4ME for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I live in CA where we are heavily restricted on the model of handguns we can buy. The 85 models aren?t on the approved roster.

So, can you modify the CZ 75 "to look/act" like a CZ 85 and still be legal.  I mean, the parts are the same except for the right side controls and the side of the holes in the frame.  Well, there sear cage is different (right side safety sticks into the sear cage some) and the detent and spring that fits in the frame and pushes against the back of the safety.

It is possible to modify the CZ 75 to have the right side safety.  Do you intend to do it?  Or have it done?  It won't be identical (inside) to the CZ 85 as the frame inside won't accommodate that detent and spring, but it will work.  Mine does.  Took a lot of measuring, remeasuring, a little file work, buying the right parts, a lot of stoning to get the safety to work with the new hammer I installed (I put a spur hammer in my CZ 75 Compact to make it look even more like a CZ 85.   Been working great for several months now.
