how to remove magazine foot plate from CZ 70
« on: October 23, 2013, 09:24:46 PM »
Hi gang,
I am a new member and just trying to figure out how to post. I am a Walther style handgun owner and my baby (favorite) so far is my Bersa Thunder .22. Turns out these are about the same size and shape as the CZ 50/70 so holsters will be easy to find.

I am the proud new owner of a "Like New" CZ-70 (mfg. '81). I purchased it from a gun auction site and was pleasantly surprised to find it was still covered, internally, with cosmoline!!! "Cosmoline Is Our Friend"  ;) It looks like the only shots fired through it were the test fire for the target that came with it. (It also came w/ the box, the original cleaning brush, a shoulder holster that has shrunk from thirty two years of non use, and 2 magazines) I was able to purchase a hard copy of a CZ 50/70 manual online and that is very useful.

I removed the handles (cleaned them separately w/ Dawn dish soap and hot water), Field stripped the gun, soaked the parts in mineral spirits, sprayed them clean with Gun Scrubber,foamed them down with aerosol CLP Break-Free, wiped them down with a clean rag, blew them out with canned air, re-assembled it, wiped it down again and re-installed the handles. 32 years old and looks like a New Gun!

Here is my question;
 "Does anyone know how to take the floor plate off of the magazine?"

I would like to wipe out the extra oil and verify that there is no cosmoline in there. Also, Based on what I have read, I may want to replace the springs and round file the lip of the magazines. It looks like the feed ramp has already been polished.

Any instructions out there for magazine spring replacement or the like?

Thanks

They are a bear to remove. You have to push in the foot of the mag spring with a punch and slide the base off. The spring is strong and might take you several tries.
