Thanks to all of you for the informative replies.  Very nice community you have here.  Over the weekend I held a M&P 2.0 compact and liked it a lot.  A buddy of mine has the full size version so I'm going to shoot his and see how it feels.  I'll probably eliminate the PPQ because it's quite a bit more expensive.  I'm not in a big hurry to make a decision so it may come down to whichever one I can find a good deal on.  I'll update the group if any new info comes to light.  How does this group like the new M&Ps?

I've been wanting to try one out. I bought a S&W Shield awhile back and I'm very happy with it.

M&P is a good pistol. With that said, I sold my Shield and purchased an XDe Springfield Armory. I am not a fan of the single stack grip feel but the like the XDe more than any other I have owned. I did add Talon rubber grip to the XDe and I add it to all pistols. When I need small for CC is use XDe when I can go a little bigger P07. I also sold my M&P Pro 9 as I am slowly changing over to SA/DA configuration. I will have a couple of exceptions but I personally prefer hammer fired SA/DA. Not quite sure why but I do.

The CZ P-07 would make a fine first firearm. The beauty of this country is the diversity of firearms available, so if the M&P or the Shield or some other sidearm fits you best, great, get what works for you.  8) I can say the wife has been agitating or a P-07

I was a Glock fan-boy since 1996, before that, I shot and carried S&W 3rd Gen autos.  Recently I sold all of my Glocks and bought my first CZ, which is the P-07.  What a great auto, like it better than a G-19, glad I switched back to a DA/SA.  And YES I think the P-07 is a great place to start.

Back to the OP.

While a bit harder to learn than SF guns, the DA/SA makes you learn how to press the trigger through to completion - makes you a better pistol shooter.

The Decocker CAN rub, but if you hold your hands right with the firing hand thumb a tad wider (necessary for SIG shooting), you will be fine.

So yes, it is GTG.

For sure it's a great gun for a first gun, or 2nd , 5th, 12th

I do have to suggest if and when you get a P-07 (or a P-09)  spend the $7.00 and get the CGW Reduced power trigger return spring. Granted I'm not sure if it is as big a deal these days as in the past, but the P-07 big weakness is the trigger return spring breaking.  The CGW solves that problem and as an added bonus makes the DA so much. Nicer

I've been an M&P guy for a long time and bought the new m2.0c and p07 the same week. Idk why but I find myself shooting and carrying the p07 much more. It shoots very nicely and I really like the feel and build quality.

The biggest downside to the p07 is magazine price (although p10c mags aren't priced that bad and work) and the aftermarket in general isn't that great. Mags, holster, sights etc are MUCH cheaper and easier to find for the m2.0 compact.

I recently went through the same process of choosing a first handgun. For me it came down to the CZ P07 or a Glock 19. Being a lefty and insisting on reversable mag release limited my choices a little as did price and I was looking for a carry gun, not just range and home.
Your question is really hammer fired or striker fired. Both have advantages as others have pointed out. As a fellow new pistol shooter I will admit that my DA shots are not as accurate as my SA shots. But even when I started they would I could hit a kill zone oval target at 20 feet. And every time I go to the range I get a little better. I have about 700 rounds through mine and I do lots of dry fire practice. Dry fire practice is one reason I chose the hammer fired gun. I can get a feel for the DA trigger pull without constantly racking the slide.
One thing you didn't mention was availability of accessories. In most areas CZ isn't very common so you will have to order your holsters etc online. With a more common gun you would have more opportunity to handle things before you buy.
