Shadow 2 - email from large gun shop
« on: December 13, 2017, 10:56:01 AM »
I put in an order for the Shadow 2 in late winter/early spring.  (Blue grip flavor).    Last week, I changed it to the normal finish, black grip.   Here is their response.  Is this true?

"So the Shadow is no longer going to be made in their custom shop.  Apparently the issue with why things with this gun have gotten so weird is that the custom shop (which at CZ is one guy) was producing an end product that had a finish on it they didn?t like.  So, they are no longer making it in their custom shop and plan to move it to mainstream production (will be lower priced) next year at some point.  We called two of the largest Distributors we do business with and none of them have ever received one of the guns this year.  Sorry for such a crazy ride on this one. ".

I don't know enough about it to know.   I've given him the correct sku #.

Who is this email response from?

And as others have said, you can find the Shadow 2 in stock from various vendors or from CGW and CZC...

It sounds like they are mixing facts . . .

Yes, CZ is discontinuing the nitride-only version (blue grips).  However, what that has to do with where they are being made (custom shop versus production) doesn't make any sense.

Also, depending on the size of this gun shop "their two biggest distributors" could be mediocre-sized places, or places that pander to the very-large stores.  I'm a nothing-volume FFL dealer, and NONE of my six distributors have delivered any of the several Shadow 2s I've had on back-order all year  Money and volume talk when it comes to the high-demand firearms.

Hell, even I had to buy my TS Orange on Gunbroker, and my Shadow 2 from GrabAGun . . .

Yeah I heard the Nitride version was going away because it is a pain to hand pick frames without machining marks because the Nitride is so thin. I am not sure why CZ has such a hard time with this. Other manufacturers seem to be able to do it. So you will only see the Black & Urban Grey in 2018.

It's not CZ's machining. It's the fact that the frames are cast. Cast isn't always perfect. That's the imperfections they sift through, not the machining. Polycoat is very thick and will hide even the worst casting imperfections whereas nitride, as you said, will not.

Thanks guys.   I don't want to give the dealer name, as my childhood friend is the CEO and 'bad answers' would embarrass.   But, it is a private sporting goods dealer that is by far the largest gun dealer in the state.    I'm going to just go thru the CZ dealer list and get to dialing.   Figured he wasn't being told the whole story.    I appreciate the feedback.
