Kadet "slide" issue.
« on: November 18, 2017, 11:55:31 PM »
First I had a problem with the slide snagging the hammer on my 75 SA, now it appears the plug in the lower piece which also moves rearward during cycling is come loose out of the front of the slide.

I'm going to add a picture to show exactly what the issue is, but I'm referring to the piece that the recoil spring goes into at the front.  It has 3 notches that line up, but the piece is loose unless I tap it in gently and won't stay in place.  I had fired about 200 rounds through my Kadet adapter today, ran fine, but that piece is loose again.  Has anyone else experienced this?  I think I'm going to have to give CZ a call and see about sending it back.  I have a couple of great gunsmiths locally, but I may as well make good use of the warranty.

That piece is staked by hand from the factory but not very well.  There is not even a separate part number for the it, so I call it the spring receiver.  I got tired of trying to find the exact rotation to make the stakings and the alignment tab line up when cleaning the gun, so I just filed the stakings and tab off so the spring receiver would easily go in and out of the slide and didn't have to be rotated to a specific orientation.  I've been happy ever since.  That was maybe 4 years and 40k rounds ago.

It is staked just to keep it from coming loose from the slide when the slide is off the conversion frame for some reason.  I agree it isn't a perfect solution but it doesn't really matter if the spring receiver is loose when not under spring pressure once you know it is loose.  The piece is under spring pressure when the recoil spring is in place anyway.

Perhaps try what I did?  All that really matters is that the piece be flush with the slide and straight.  It can be a little loose in the hole.  You can always use a drop of epoxy on it once you get it lined up and just leave it in the slide with the stakes lined up correctly once if you want.  There is no way it will stay put after a few hundred rounds and it is a pain to line it up and tap it back in place each time you clean the gun.

Thanks for the help Joe!  Yes, my kit has about 2500 rounds through it now with the loose "spring receiver" and there's no sign of anything amiss with it.  It just works.

I emailed CZ, just to see if they could do anything about it as it's under warranty, but we'll see what they say.  I'm sure my local smith could re-stake it as well if needed.

I can't fault you for wanting to use the warranty, but I agree with Joe, as long as it is flush, it won't come loose in use. The recoil spring will hold it in.

Let us know what you decide. I once called CZ warranty about a Kadet, and they wanted the kit and the host gun, even though I knew what was wrong.

In the end, I bought the part and did it myself ( CZ did eventually warranty the part itself) as I didn't want to be without my host gun for up to 6 weeks.

Keep us informed

I sent my kadet slide back to CZ the day before Thanksgiving, I think they had it maybe 4 days, and came back in December 5th.  Haven't been able to try it yet, but if it comes loose again, I'll just deal with it.

So far, it's been fine.  I put 200 mini mags through it and it's still firmly staked in.

Your P-09 conversion kit is completely different from the 75B Kadet kit that is the subject of this thread.

No problem, whatsoever.  Some of us not-so-newbies have yet to see or shoot a P-07 or P-09 Kadet, so we are newbies on that one ourselves.

I've been using my 75 Kadet kit regularly on two guns, no issues since CZ fixed it.
