Post-CGW Pro Rami Upgrade Question
« on: February 08, 2018, 05:28:31 PM »
Hello all.  Long-time listener, first time caller.

I recently completed a home brew CGW pro upgrade of my Rami (safety model), including polishing of all contact points.  All went well, and I am pleased as punch with the results.

Here's the question.  It concerns DA only.  After taking up the pre-travel, and beginning the trigger press, I encounter a smooth slight "bump" after (guessing distance) 1/8" or so, then a second after another 1/8 inch or so, then onward with the press to a clean break.  Is that just the normal action sequence (made more noticeable after the slick upgrade), or am I missing a tweak somewhere?  I studied the action animations in the stickies, but can't figure it out.  I am assuming pre-travel ends when the trigger bar reaches the lug on the side of the disconnector, but I can't account for the subsequent bumps.  The firing pin plunger is not involved; the bumps are there with the slide removed.  And there are no bumps when thumbing back the hammer.  Also, no revealing wear points.

Can someone please enlighten me?  Thanks!

Welcome aboard.

The first thing that comes to mind is the trigger bar spring. The grooves that the legs  ride in can be a little rough. Also you can check that they are both riding in the grooves, and have the correct tension. I?m sorry, having a dead brain right now, can?t remember the proper adjustment. [emoji17] I?m thinking that when you pop the springs out of the grooves, they should sit about an 1/8? above the bottom of the trigger bar. Someone will be along with the proper setting[emoji6]

Are these "bumps" apparent when you pull the trigger in DA at normal speed. When i say normal speed i mean the speed that you would pull the trigger if you were shooting the pistol live fire. With my tuned CZs if i pull the trigger slow enough some tings become apparent that are not detectable when pulling the trigger at normal speed.

Did you lubricate the internal contact surfaces?
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Thank you for the responses.

Cntrydawwwg, regarding the trigger bar springs and grooves, yes, the grooves were smoothed, and the tension seems right.  To test, I slightly reduced the tension, but with the slide off, that induced failures to engage or slippage of the disconnector(?) / sear(?),  so I tensioned it back to the original scribe marks I put inside the frame.  I did not test increasing the tension.  And now that I think about it, maybe I should have tested the reduced tension with the slide on.  One thing is certain - changes in that spring tension really affects things.

Tok36, yes, all contact surfaces are lubed.  Everything feels smooth, even the bumps, but with a normal trigger press, you feel them enough that they are hard to ignore.  Slow down and they are readily evident - enough to easily stage the trigger.  They feel like points where parts are engaging, but I can't put my finger on what parts.  I think I get what you mean by tings, but these seem more than that.

I carry C/L, so this is mostly academic, but it's gonna drive me nuts.  I gots'ta know.  Again, thank you for the replies (oh, and if someone is thinking of advising 'just go out and shoot the stuffing out of it', no worries in that department, 200 post-upgrade rounds already).

^^ This is what i was thinking as well. This is the first time i have seen this particular question come up. If you find out anything interesting OP we would like to hear it. We are all here to learn.

The only things that come to mind are the trigger bar shifting during the DA pull or the top of the trigger bar coming in to contact with the under side of the sear cage before it is pushed down so that it slips off of the disconector.

I have not had a chance to work on a RAMI, to my knowledge they are very similar to a 75 variant internally but there may be more to it that i am unaware of.

It's hard to diagnose without pictures or a video.  It would also be nice to know how much the trigger pull increases at each perceived bump (probably impossible to acquire).

I would guess the initial bump is where sear engages the half cock notch on the hammer.  Do you hear a click at the perceived trigger bump?  Shortly thereafter the triggerbar starts getting pushed down by the ejector (sear) cage or maybe the firing pin block lifter getting engaged?  It will engage near the end of the DA trigger pull.  It does have a small L-spring, did you install the heavy L spring CGW offers?

What is your DA trigger pull now?  Did you polish the triggerbar where the disconnector wing gets pushed?

Call CGW and get a definitive answer!

Cheers,
Toby

After more study of how the action works, the bumps occur at initial engagement of the sear, and then the lifter arm. Seems straightforward enough, but I still can't figure out things aren't engaging smoothly.

I will call CGW as advised. I suppose they will want to see it, in which case, hmm, maybe some new sights while they're at it.

Thanks folks. I will report back.

Update and solution.  Cntrydawwwg was correct. The culprit was the trigger bar spring tension. I had to adjust the right-side spring downward to a point where it was more than just contacting the bottom of the trigger bar, but less than able to overlap the trigger bar when pulled out with a dental pick.  Setting it at this point virtually eliminated the ?bumps? I was feeling (each sequential engagement of the action parts), but still provides consistent reset.  How sweet it is.  Thanks everyone for the advice!  P.S.  Walking away from the project for a week or so was a big help.
