Your favorite 9mm hollow point for CZ
« on: March 04, 2018, 02:00:18 PM »
Which 9mm bullet (HP or JHP or other self defense type bullet) do you hand load for your CZ? What is the COL that you have found that works?
What is the powder charge you use with it?

I am going to buy some type of bullet so that I can take all of my brass from purchased plinking rounds (115 typically) and make some "better" rounds at 124 grain. I don't want to learn the lessons you all have already learned by buying and finding that they just don't feed, instead I want to buy in bulk some 124 grain bullets that have been shown to usually work and feed and reload well.

For carry, I use Speer Gold Dot 124 grain hollow points, standard velocity.  For reloads, I just use Berry 124 grain FMJ?s.  But I never use reloads for concealed carry.

? The "best buy" is the Precision Delta 124gr JHP, when you buy 2000 or more. And there is a discount code floating around this forum if you want to buy 3000 which lowers it even more. Price includes shipping.

? Second favorite is the Zero 124gr JHP from Roze Dist.

Both those load at 1.100".

? Another good buy is the Rocky Mtn Reloading 124gr JHP, which generally loads around 1.065". It's a good solid plinker for low volume ordering that results in excellent seating depth. RMR costs include shipping.

All 3 of these bullets excel with most any pistol powder above 125PF (~1010fps). Favorites include N320, N330, BE-86, W231, HP-38, WSF, 7625, and others.

For SD I suggest you buy factory made rounds of 130gr to 147gr. Both Federal and Speer offer excellent cartridges that feed well in the CZ. Both Speer (Gold Dot), Berry Mfg (Hybrid) and Hornady (XTP) offer excellent SD bullets if you insist on loading your own.

? We typically don't publish exact loads on this forum, mainly becasue your results will vary and you should run your own tests. But if you'll tell us bullet and powder we'll be happy to give you a narrow testing range. Many of us prefer Federal #100 primers, which can also skew the results.

Hope this helps.

PD 124gr JHP with 231/HP-38.  Best combo I have loaded so far.

I, to this point, have only used Precision Delta 115 grain hollow points in my CZ 9MM pistols.  That's due to finding out Joe's recommendations for accuracy achieved with the 115 grain HP's he buys (don't remember the brand for sure now).  When I bought my P09 9MM I also bought a box of that ammo (Georgia Arms??  Atlanta Arms??) at the same gun show and it shot excellent groups in the P09.

So, when I bought hollow points I bought the PD hollow points in the same weight.  I use either CCI or Federal small pistol primers and Blue Dot powder.  Why  Blue Dot?  Because I had a bunch of it and it did so well in my .40 S&W loads for the P07 (based on Nosler's info that showed they got their best groups with their 135 grain hollow points - .40 S&W - with Blue Dot powder.)

I get good groups.  The load is below the printed maximum (mine usually are - I want good groups, not maximum velocity) and even at the printed max. load the pressure is lower with Blue Dot that with most other powders at similar velocites.

I can't tell you (off the top of my head) what the COL is.  I've got it written down in my reloading log.  I use the same COL for the CZ 75 Compacts/P01 and the P09.

I've got some 124's to try (Nosler and some from Roze) but haven't gotten around to working up some loads yet.  So many reloading/gun projects to get through....and not enough range time.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Hornady XTP 124gr JHP. Either Hornady or Starline brass and one of my powders (longshot, HS-6, CFE pistol). Maxload!
