Are my sights mounted 'too high'?
« on: March 07, 2018, 06:09:38 PM »
Hello All,

Just installed some sights on my SP-01 Tactical that I got from CZ Custom.  A 6.5mm high Fiber Optic front, and the 'HTAC' rear.  I carefully sanded the bottoms until they fit snugly (not being forced in via hard hammering) in their respective slots, but they both seem to have some considerable space between their bottoms and the slide top.

Both spaces seem even to each other, they are both a tiny bit more than the thickness of a business card. And again, both are snug in their slots.  Is this normal?  Thanks in advance.

That front sight is for a standard 75 series CZ gun.   It has a .085 inch deep dovetail.  The shadows and sp01 variants have a .060 inch deep front dovetail.

The standard 75 series front sight will fit on an sp01 but I don't think an sp01 front sight will fit on a standard 75 variant.

Dawson precision sells front sights that fit the sp01 and shadow variants.

If it doesn't bother you and it shoots point of aim, it should be fine.   I'm going to predict that it shoots low.

Cheers,
Toby

The rear sight should not touch the slide, so the gap is good.

CZ Custom instructions indicate that the rear shouldn't touch the slide.  https://czcustom.com/cz-75-competition-rear-sight-standard-dovetail.html

I think cope is right and the rear sight is the wrong sight for a standard sp01.  The only htac I see on their website is for a shadow variant which had a different dovetail cut.

That is probably the reason for the excessive gap.

Toby

Thanks.  Yes, this set of sights were printing about 2.5-3" low at 40 feet.  It did take quite a bit of filing to sit the front cutout.  So I ordered another from Dawson which should be more along the lines of where it should line up.

Yes, this is the one I ordered (all-black) which indicates that it is for a standard CZ 75 rear dovetail.
