Federal's New Catalyst High Performance Lead Free Primer
« on: March 15, 2018, 09:28:00 PM »
Here's a picture of Federal's new primer:  https://federalpremium.com/products/premium-technologies-handgun.aspx   Just scroll down the page until you get to the comparison pictures.

It's not available for reloaders, but look at the difference in the flame between Lead Styphnate and Catalyst.  Quite impressive!  It also notes the Catalyst primer is non-hygroscopic, so I'm wondering if that's been a problem with the DDNP Non-Toxic primers?

Federal is only listing it in their "range ammo" for now, so my guess is they're proving the concept where it's relatively safe, before putting it into their defense ammo.  They were just granted a pretty large contract for .40 S&W Frangible ammunition for the Navy, and that ammo is going to have the Catalyst primers in it.

Hope this helps.
