SP-01 Shadow - NO safety
« on: April 16, 2018, 07:01:37 AM »
Hi Guys,

I'm new in this CZ World and bought a few weeks ago a new CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow to make target shooting.
Changed a few parts as SA trigger, competition hammer and sights, then I noticed that the safety lever did not work. It is not very important to me as this gun is only for target shooting but tried to fix it...

I saw a movie where we had to file a little the sear, where it touches the safety lever and did it.

Maybe I filed too much... now the safety lever moves freely but if I pull the trigger the hammer goes down, even with the safety ON :(

Any advice, other than buy a new sear and try again?

Thanks

More details on the hammer you bought?
So you didn't replace the sear with the adjustable on...you just filed the sear.
It sounds like you potentially filed too much which allows the sear to move and the hammer to drop.

Take the slide off.
Put the hammer in SA mode.
Engage the safety.
Your sear should make contact with the lobe on your safety lever. If it does not, you probably took off too much.

Try not to let the hammer fall without a slide in place. (Hold it with your thumb or hand)

Change the sear and do all the filing all over again. Or use sandpaper and black marker. Sear is pretty cheap too for experiment:) Sear cage on, sear cage off.

Guys, thanks for your inputs.

Maybe my error was to measure, with the hammer down, the ammount of the sear to be filed. Latter I read that with the hammer down the safety lever does not move to the safety position.

Next time, with a new sear that I already ordered, I have to measure with the hammer backwards, that way the ammount to be file should be less ;)

My new hammer is a SA hammer from https://www.czub.cz/en/catalogsearch/result/?q=1091-1321

Regards

The first time I did that it was on the CZ 75 Compact I converted to CZ85 controls.

I didn't want to have to take the sear in/out or mess it up, so I used a stone on the lobe on the left side safety shaft that makes contact with the arm on the sear.  I had that safety in/out of the pistol frame 24 times, taking just a little off and trying it.  I wanted it just right.  Finally got it.

But, it's one of those things you only do once.  The next two times I've done modes that would have required altering the safety shaft lobe/sear I just bought one of CGW's adjustable sears.  So much easier and quicker.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I know what you mean :) the problem here is that CGW don't sell parts abroad, and I'm in Europe...

A few days ago I tried to buy a "Floating trigger pin" for my Shadow and CGW told me that they couldn't sell it to me :(

So, I have to invent solutions.

Wow, sorry to hear that.

Stoning would take more time, but going slower might give you a working safety/sear engagement.

Good luck with it.
