Griffin Tri Lug problem
« on: September 17, 2018, 10:53:05 PM »
Just got my rev 9 out of jail. Going to install the tri lug, get it all piece together properly (I think) but none of the 3 different tri lugs I have will work.

I have i from Manticore, one from HK parts, and one from in lead we trust. They all seem to be right around 0.59~ OD while that little stainless plug that goes inside the tri lug had an ID of 0.58~

Also I see that my stainless doodad is different from the one I see in photos on silencer shop's web site. Am I doing something wrong? Or did they send me the wrong part?

Here is a photo of the way I am trying to assemble it.
Here is what the stainless thing looks like on SS website. its completely different than mine. https://www.silencershop.com/griffin-3-lug-coupler-assembly.html

I have the rev 9 too. Also have the 3 lug QD coming and GA 3 lug. I?ve heard some light sanding of the lugs may be required to fit on the 3 Lug of a HK clone. But it should fit on the HK and GA 3 lug with no issues. I will find out shortly when mine gets delivered. We shall see. Most people use the maroon colored scotch bright pad to clean some of the paint on the lugs.

Griffin got back to me this morning blaming my "non HK spec 3 lugs"   Not sure how you can blame three different companies who all measure the same.

Anyhow they are sending me a new part. The ID should be 0.59~ not 0.58~  Whatever.  New part on the way and situation apparently solved.

I?ve heard some light sanding

Yeah I could understand some light hand sanding to get it smooth. But this would require power tools as out of spec as it is.  Just build a flap wheel on a drill press should do it.  However I don't think paying their price of $130 should involve me doing the finishing machine work.

15mm is 0.5906 inches, which I believe is the size of the hole the lug goes into, which is slightly smaller at around 0.5901. Either way, the part you got is way too small

I'm sorry you have to deal with Griffin customer service.

Secondly, Griffin 3 lug mounts are known to be out of spec but they wont admit it. You'll either have to modify your mount in the can, or the mount on the gun, or buy their 3 lug mount for the gun.

So I?ve read a lot about issues attaching Suppressors with 3 lug QD?s to the 3 lugs. Well, my Z5P 3 Lug was no different and had clearance issues with the piston. So i got my GA Rev 9 suppressor on 9/11. And finally got my 3 lug QD from GA, I was expecting clearance issues and was ready for it. I had to sand the paint off the 3 lug and take some metal as well. Here are the pics of the parts of the 3 lug I sanded and polished. Suppressor goes on great now. No issues. I may end up blueing the 3 lug later.

For sanding I had some 80 grit. Took about an hour just rotating the paper in a circular motion. Then used 1500 to polish it. I used 80 grit on the lugs as well. It?s a very smooth finish.

I also ordered a GA 3 lug and it fits the QD piston just fine.

I have pictures to post but couldnt find the way to attach them.

Here?s a link to this post at HK Clone talk that has pics. Page 4 posted by bgriff008

Bill J. Your Sequence looks good. Also if your 3 lug is not sliding into the piston without interference then the 3 lug may need to be sanded down. Your lugs on your 3 lug look a bit different than mine that I received from GA. Your lugs look more shaped like my 3 lug on my Z5P.  There is a slight difference between the 2 I have. I can post a pic later. Probably have to post on HK clone again.

Oh and your piston the chrome SS piece looks like mine.  You?re all set.

Bill, you must have read my initial post before I edited it. I couldn?t see the whole pic u posted at first and thought the  piston was wrong. Then I realized I could slide your pic and saw you had everything correct. So I made an edit.

Hope it all works out for you.
