My first steel CZ
« on: September 04, 2018, 05:21:28 PM »
I bought my first non polymer CZ today, a CZ-75D Compact. I love my other CZ?s ( Phantom, P-07 tactical, P-10c ). I?ve been eye balling this one for a while. I?m not sure about the factory rubber grips however. Any suggestions would be great.  :)

Lots of grip options.  The LOK palm swells, as mentioned above, are great on a compact for my medium sized hands.  Oh, and congrats on the new acquisition!!   :D

Excellent choice you?ve made. I really like the Lok Mayhem grips on my compact with rail. Good luck and hope you enjoy that new pistol.

You can not go wrong with LOK grips.  I have the checkered palm swell grips with a cherry red liner.  They fit both the frame and my hand great.

Have you tried firing it yet? I love the factory rubber CZ grips, and have them on most of my pistols.

Good question and good point. You may very well find that the rubber grips suit your needs perfectly.

My wife's first CZ was a CZ75 Compact in satin nickel (only one I've ever seen).  Very slick in your hand (original hard plastic grips) and both of us were uncomfortable with the feel.  I mean it moved in your hand when you shot it.  I ended up buying some skateboard tape and putting it around the frame/under the grip panels to give us a more secure grip on the pistol.

Then I got my P01 Omega/Urban Gray and it had the soft rubber grip panels on it.  Night and day difference.  My wife agreed and I ordered a set of compact rubber grip panels for her Compact.  We were able to remove the skate board tape as the soft rubber grips seemed to glue the pistol into your hand.

All of the newer Compacts have had the soft rubber grips on them.  I liked the feel/grip well enough I bought a set of the full sized ones for my Pre B CZ85.

Everyone is different, but we like the feel of the soft rubber grips.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I too loved the feel of the soft rubber grips, but when I started shooting my P01 in competition I had to get new grips due to sweat.  I live in deep south where humidity sticks to your skin like glue.  I installed LOK grenade grips and love them!

If sweaty hands are not a factor then the orig grips should work great!

I felt that way about my P07, for the first few years....grips to rough?  How can anyone say the P07's grips are to rough?  They were just right.

Then one hot nasty day at the range that P07, even with grips that some people feel are "too" rough, was moving around in my hand and I was having to re-grip the pistol every 2 or 3 shots.  At first I wasn't aware of what was going on, I knew something was wrong, didn't realize what it was.  My groups and my head were both circling the round hole in the bottom of the pot and then it soaked through - sweat.  So much sweat it was getting to the gooey/slimy phase as the moisture does a little evaporating and leaves oils/acids, etc.

I came home and ordered a set of those stick on rough grips that encircle the frame 360 degrees (I can never remember the name but they have a "T" cut out near the top front on the sides.)  Worked great.

I guess I haven't been to the range on a similar day with the soft rubber gripped Compact or P01 to see how it fares for me in the same conditions.
