Used Scorpion - what to inspect?
« on: August 24, 2018, 09:22:46 PM »
I found a Scorpion carbine on consignment at my LGS - anything in particular I should look out for when I inspect it?

Thanks.

Based on my use of my SBR'd Scorpion for 8-10K rounds mostly suppressed, there isn't alot one can do to hinder it's function.  The bolt makes up a good portion of the gun's weight and is a massive chunk of steel.  I rarely clean or oil mine and it just runs.  Maybe check for any cracks and function test on/off safe.  Grab a new recoil spring for the heck of it from CZUSA and be done with it.

Hopefully it's a great deal as the new ones are 750-800 at LGS near me.

Thanks for the input.  I took a look at it today - appears to be a bone stock 2016 model.  Hammer has some light wear/ deformation but nothing particularly worrisome given what I?ve read here on the forum.

By your local prices it?s not that great of a deal but still cheaper than a NIB around here.

Thanks.

The hammers come deformed from the factory... soft surface hardrning. It doesnt really progress past that. I got 10000rnds through mine. Only thing I've changed is put in a new recoil and extractor spring just because.  I shoot mine friggin smokey barrel fast the evo is about as rock solid as a quality AK47

I agree I have way over 10000 rounds threw mine( I stopped counting after I hit 10000 rounds, nearly a year ago) as well and I would say if you are curious of bad treatment of the scorpion look it over for ruff edges( damage from drops or misuse) on the plastic itself if its all beat up then they didn't take care of it. Look inside it as much as allowed and see how clean it is as well. Basic inspection should tell you if you have a good buy or not. Keep us posted if you buy one and what you find as well. We love happy endings here.
