CZ75 finish vs kydex
« on: September 30, 2018, 11:10:05 AM »
So I just purchased a CZ75b SA and I am coming to discover the profile is different than the regular 75b. That complicates finding a holster.

Thankfully I?m a big fan of kydex, and know it can easily be remolded with a heat gun or hair dryer. So I?m thinking just buy a 75 holster of my favorite brand, warm it up, cram the SA in there and remold it.

Now that I?ve rambled on about that the real reason for this post is how well the 75 finish holds up to kydex wear? I?ve only ever had Glocks and S&W?s previously and those finishes held up well. But they also aren?t polycoat (CZ still uses polycoat right?)

Does the kydex just eat the coating off? Or can anyone recommend a holster for it? I?ve only found 1 or 2 companies that specifically list the SA or 40 caliber model

I would think the SA and B models use the same holster.  The tang under the hammer is different but the rest of the frame should be the same.  The use the same internal parts (except trigger and disconnector) and use the same magazines and grips.

As for the finish?  Well my CZ75 Compact has the finish worn off the front corners of the slide and frame as well as the slide releases and safeties after a year of so of going into and out of a kydex holster 2 or 3 times a day practically every day.

In another thread people were recommending automotive touch up paint (satin black) to cover the shiny spots on CZ's.  I've tried the heavy duty cold bluing that Brownell's sells but it only lasts a few days before the shiny spots are back.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Honest holster wear gives a pistol character. Once you accept that the shiny spots won't bother you. :)

At least that is what I tell my OCD self. And why I'd never holster carry my S&W Model 39 or 539.....I have decided to carry my glossy blue 85C though, as her corners have worn over the years. But only in leather. No plastic for this guy.

CZ75b SA

CZ75b

The difference is in the front of the slide. I would expect minor heat and reshaping

I only have (2) coated pistols. A CZ PCR and a Kimber. The coating on the CZ is far more durable than the coating on my Kimber.

In my experience Kydex is harder on finishes (both guns and knives) than leather. Leather is softer than Kydex.

In any case a holstered gun is going to show holster wear after time no matter what type of holster is used.

The CZ 75 SA and CZ 75 Shadow use the same holsters.  They both have the same slide profile.

Kimber. I have a pre "series II" Custom Target 1911 that I swear the finish was worse than what is left on your fingers after eating cheese puffs. Two weeks of casual IDPA in a plastic (aka kydex) holster ruined it. Still have the gun, awesome shooter.
