Light

Much in the same vein as the optic thread:

Time to think about an light or light/laser combo for the Scorpion.

So...

Do you run one?  And if so, what do you run?  Why did you choose it?

I have a TLR-2G HL with tape switch. Run the tape switch on left side of handguard and laser/light on right side. I hold the magwell with my left hand so my thumb naturally falls on the pressure pad. Love the combo.

I opted for a TLR-1HL. I mounted all the way forward on left on a pistol length handguard. This light is still very bright but not too bright for indoors, it has a very hot and direct beam that can cut very far, we shot at night and were spotting our 8? targets and making hits at about 70 yds. At the same time the light has a good corona around the hotspot that makes for good situational awareness which is how we were able to find those targets in the dark in the first place.

If you are running a light an a suppressor you may really want to opt for a longer handguard too, if you run the shorter handguard with a can, the can will block some of the light and cast a shadow

Hadn't factored the suppressor into the mix.  Running a AAC Ti-Rant 45 with about 6.5 inches past the end of the hand guard.  Might have to "rethink" that particular item and go shorter.  Glad you brought the point up.  Thanks.

Ya that will pose an issue, I run an Octane 9HD and it?s a long can, with my light on the left side of my handguard it cast a shadow almost dead on 4 o?clock from not quite to center to the end of the corona. It is a very slim shadow and I personally don?t think it would have much effect indoors but outside it probably hides about 20% of your total light output for the corona, the hot beam is not affected at all for me. You would likely have similar results. A shorter can will still cause this to an extent but I am unaware of how much based on length and width of the can

Made the commitment to go with a TLR-1HL at 6 o'clock.  Replaced the hand stop I was running (using the light as the hand stop now) and mounted the tape switch on the RH side.  It's a little snug with my hand pushed against the back of the plug, but I think it's a manageable solution.  Haven't tried it with the suppressor in place, but that will be on the agenda tomorrow at work.

Thanks for all the input to this thread, it was a big help in making the choice.

This is how I like mounting my Surefire M300C... the Cloud Defensive tape switch mount is freaking fantastic!

Tried the light with the suppressor mounted, worked perfectly!  No real shadows, good lighting.

Here's the one I use:
https://www.amazon.com/Lumens-Ultra-Compact-Flashlight-Detachable-Pressure/dp/B01EYZ248M/ref=sr_1_116?ie=UTF8&qid=1539703799&sr=8-116&keywords=small+weapon+light

I know what you're thinking: it's only 100 lumens. But I assure you it's bright enough to light up a room. If you think you'll use your Scorpion for home defense, it is perfectly adequate. If you plan on using it in nighttime jungle warfare, you probably want a brighter light.

The main reason I went with this light is because it's small. Very small. The way I have it mounted keeps it completely out of the way. I moved the front sight back a few spaces and mounted the optic at the front-most position on the picatinny rail. The light hangs on the right side of the gun. My left hand holds the front portion of the gun in such a way that my thumb rides on the angled portion of the handguard. So, I mounted the light and ran it's tape switch under it's own mount and out the front. The switch then lays in place on the angled portion of the handguard. This means that I don't have to do anything special to activate the light, no hand movements. My thumb rides the switch and I depress it to turn it on when necessary.
