Clearly, I?m not up to date.

So, I had what I thought was a decent bid (Gun Broker) on a very nice, original CZ-75 with everything, box, target, manual, everything.  And the pistol was nearly pristine.  Excellent for a 30 year old pistol.  Alas, my bid was trampled and after the dust settled, the pistol sold for over $1,350.  I mean, really? :o. Honestly, I had no idea they were going for that much.  Lesson learned I guess.

There has been a 1979 boxed short rail listed several times on GB - starting bid $4495!!! That in my opinion is way high for a minty short rail.

This was not a short rail, just a standard, albeit quite nice pre-B CZ-75.  And there were several guys bidding on it towards the end.  I was just gobsmacked.

My grandma used to say, "Some people have more money than sense."

I passed up a nice looking Pre B CZ85 with the original box/papers/etc. for about $550 at a local gun show several months back.  I saw it at the most recent gun show I went to for $995.  Six months and it's almost doubled in price.  Usually, when someone wants to sell something, the drop the price, not raise it.

It may be worth that thousand dollar price the owner wants for it.  I passed it up at $550 because I don't even shoot all the pistols I have, so no need to add more I won't have time to shoot.

I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

It?s probably easy to say that the CZ brand name awareness has grown quite a bit in just a few short years, especially with social media feeding it. The auction sites help feed the frenzy on the older ones that were privately owned versus surplus....not to say that some good ones do show up from time to time and pass by with low attention.

That can happen in auctions. Almost always when I am the potential buyer and almost never when I am the seller.......

maybe he raised the price so that now he can haggle it down to a little more than he used to want to make someone think they just got a bargain  ;D

chances are someone thought it was worth more than you and wanted it bad enough to make that bid.

If the winning bidder paid too much, its on him/her not you.

Things like this happen in auctions - online and in person. 

YOu can always try to bid on another one if one happens to show up on the web.   Something to consider is that if there is a BUY IT NOW price, you may really want to consider doing so.  It may cost you a few bucks more, but at least you will have it.

It's not what it's worth, it's what it's worth to one person.  :o 8) Like people scalping Superbowl tickets - I wouldn't give you $5 for one, but people pay thousands. Id be happy to pay several hundred bucks for a good CZ75 Pre B, bt for a grand...I'll just get a current one. I want shooters, anyway.

Or the seller thought it was worth more than your bid and had a friend jack the bid up. Beware if you get a message from the seller stating the winner cancelled but you can have the pistol for his bid price.

I've never seen that on GB, but have heard of similar on evilBay. I would either expect the price to be my bid before they started bidding against me (if they cancelled their bid). Otherwise I would decline the offer and report the scam.
