Price for new 85 Combat
« on: November 16, 2018, 07:17:08 PM »
Hi,
A local gunshop has what I think is a new 85 Combat for $589.99.  Does that sound like a good price?

Thanks,

YES.  They no longer make them or list them on the CZ USA web site.  They do show the CZ75B models at a higher MSRP than you quoted for that CZ85.  The 75's don't have ambidextrous safeties or slide release like the 85 does.

Does the 85 you looked at have adjustable rear sight?  If so that would have raised the cost even more over the fixed sight model.

I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Hi,
Yes, it does have the adjustable rear sights. I didn't think to ask if it came with the box , 2nd mag, etc. I know I asked if he had any used CZ's and I don't think he mentioned the 85 as being one of them. I kind of thought it sounded like a good price but  just wasn't sure. The problem is when I got on this most recent CZ obsession I wanted a Matte Stainless 75 even though I had thought about the 85 before so I don't know if I will buy it. I just bought a surplus Transitional from DWJ. It has the rounded trigger guard, pinned front sight, wider rear dovetail, no f.p.b., round hammer[which I like] , modern slide serrations, and the newer Mec- Gar mags seem to work. It's just going to come down to what I want to spend my money on. It's addictive reading the forum; you just want to branch out and start buying and doing everything you read about.

 Thanks,

My first metal framed CZ was also a Pre B.  But a Pre B CZ85.  Once I got it rebuilt, refinished and started shooting it and carrying it (a little) I liked it so well my second project was buying a CZ75 Compact and converting it to look like a CZ85 (ambidextrous safeties and slide release.)  I carried it for a couple years.

The kydex will likely accelerate finish wear.  My Compact is shiny/silver on the controls, the front of the slide, etc. from sliding in/out of the kydex holster several times a day during the time I was carrying it.

A NIB CZ 85 Combat is definitely a good buy at $589.99.  In fact, I would question if it was really NIB at that price.  This was the "premium" 75/85 series pistol for about two decades before the Shadow, et al.

When I was originally looking for an Ambi CZ85(B), I came across a Matte Stainless and figured ambi safety was good enough.  Boy, what an awesome gun!  That said, I picked up new old stock (I think a 2015) 85B when I had the the chance and boy do ai love it, especially now that it is souped up.  See "Here it is" thread in this CZ85 forum.

In summary, buy it while you can, then pick up a stainless down the road.
