I have a 527M in 223/556 that I've been messing around with casually for a year. I got some Skinner peep sights installed on it and have been figuring those out. I just use the rifle for the same reason anyone may have an AR: fun and plinking and defense. Especially to familiarize myself with offhand shooting (with an without sling) and iron sights. No bi pods, scopes, or hunting with this rifle.
I don't reload so factory ammo only for me. I want to put the rifle on rest, get a few different type of ammo, and see what shoots well, what the rifle is capable of, and get the sights dialed in. Can anyone recommend some factory loadings that you've found work well? I know with the 1:9 twist I should be good with 50 grains to 69ish grains, still curious on what you folks found works well.
Also any recommendations on what distance I should zero the rifle at? Zeroing an AR at 50 meters gets you back on zero again at 300 meters with shots in between a little high, whereas a 100 meter zero is more simple. I know it would be different with a 527m but should I just zero it for 100 m for the simplicity?
