Serial numbers on a 82
« on: March 14, 2019, 04:18:26 PM »
One of my 82's has a serial number that starts with the letter "F". It was made in 1989. I've never heard of the letter "F" starting the 82 number. Does anyone know why or if it means anything special? If this has been discussed before I apologize, nothing showed up on search.

I went through my copy of Cold War Pistols of Czechoslovakia, Chapter V: The vz. 82 and CZ 83 and didn't find anything about a letter preceding the serial number, even in the "odd" sequence/year mismatches.

Would you be able to post a photo showing the markings?

Per page 117, the "calculated" serial number range for those with "89" year markings is 110241-153294.
The "observed" serial number range for the "89" year markings is 110305-147468.

A photo would be great. Another thought is there?s the off-chance some importers will add their own letter(s) to an existing SN to make it their own SN.

I'll try tomorrow. It doesn't look like an add on. It's at the same depth as the numbers on barrel and frame. I could be wrong but it sure looks like factory to me.

Well, I feel like a total idiot. I went and got the 82 out of the safe to take a look at the numbers and take pictures. The "F" is only on the barrel and not on the frame, and it was stamped by someone other than the factory. Sorry to bother everyone, I didn't take a good look at the serial numbers before putting it away. It was later on that I remembered the "F" in the serial number. I should have gotten up off my ass and went to the safe and taken a good look before I posted. I assure everyone that this won't happen again. Thanks for everyone's help, even if it was for nothing.

No problem. Happens when one starts accumulating stuff and things get mixed up!
