Springfield P9 Competition in 40
« on: February 23, 2019, 07:34:25 PM »
There is a Springfield P9 for sale at my LGS.  It looks like it might be a "Competition" model and is in 40.  Its two toned.  I was curious if anyone knows much about this particular model of P9?

From what I understand it may be a Tangfolio that Springfield sold.  But I was interested if anyone knew more about this "competition" model?  Or if anyone had one at one point.

Here is a link to a picture of a virtually identical gun.

I've always wanted one of those. We'll, for long time anyway.

If it was at a good price, I'd buy it.

I'll probably buy a Jericho one of these days.

It would depend on condition. If it was in great shape and $300 I would buy it in a heartbeat. At $600, I'd think about it a bit.

A Witness P Match costs right at $600 brand new....and is very accurate.  So don't pay that kind of money for a used gun. I own both.... the old and the new...... and the P Match will out shoot the 20 year old model.... easy.  Springfield bought the P9 from Tanfoglio and marked them as the P9. (or P40).  When Tanfoglio sold the same gun to the public they called it the ULTRA IPSC approved.  However the gun was marked, (Springfield or Tanfoglio), it was a small frame Tanfoglio with some improvements to make the gun easier to shoot accurately in competition.  The Witeness P Match is a large poly frame gun with improvements...with the addition of a single action only trigger.  If I was limited to one, I would take the newer P Match model, unless the Springfield was going in the $400 range.

Thanks for replies.  The one I see is going for $650.  It looks to be in good condition.

I do see the same pistol sold for $1000+ on gun broker recently.

One note of caution.  Tanfoglio sold a .40 back then that was not a .40 S&W.   It was a forty at the case mouth that had a smaller case head the size of a 9mm....not the same as .40 S&W.  There is virtually NO .40 ammo in that calibur these days.

Actually, that was the .41AE, which used .410/10.4mm Bullets, rather 10mm Bullets. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.41_Action_Express

The .41 AE cartridge preceded the .40 S&W, but it actually was the .40 S&W that pretty much killed it off.
Tanfoglio saw the demand for Pistols in .40 S&W and dropped the .41 AE.
