CZ 82/83 Magazine Question
« on: March 11, 2019, 09:46:17 PM »
Hello fellow CZ fans! I have a rather straightforward question about CZ 82/83 magazines. I recently dropped off my newly acquired CZ 82 at my local gun smith to have the mag release button worked on and smoothed up (literally needed a punch to get the mag to drop on one side). I noticed they had a bunch of different magazines for sale out front and low and behold there was a spare CZ 82/83 mag for sale. Having only one come with the gun I immediately bought it. Now my question is this. Did CZ make dimpled and non-dimpled mags? If so what's the history/purpose for either? I'm aware of the fakes out there marked mfg CZ and this mag certainly does not fit their description. There are no visible welds or any CZ logos. It doesn't have any dimples near the base plate and the only marking on the mag is the crossed swords which are located on the bottom right.

TL;DR  Did CZ make dimpled and non dimpled factory mags? If so what's the history/purpose for each? Is one style more reliable than the other?

Thanks in advance for any and all replies! Any insight is appreciated! Also this is my first time posting so I apologize if I overlooked any formalities.

Welcome from another newbie.  I have my CZ 83 for about 5 weeks now and I bought two additional from Centerfire Systems with I bought the gun.  The one that came with the gun has a hole drilled where the "X" is and it is an OEM mag with no visible weld.  The other two are "CZ Mfg" on the baseplate and are clearly inferior.  The feed lips were too wide and I may have them adjusted where they are serviceable as range mags but certainly nothing I would use for SD purposes.  Jestice Arms has them for 17 bucks IIRC and I just took delivery today of two complete with leather mag pouches from Aim Surplus...20.00 each.  Not sure of the indentation on the mag body, but my guess is that they are all the knock off units.

Yeah there seem to be quite a few companies distributing the "CZ Mfg" as the real deal. Thankfully like you mentioned they can be altered to make decent mags for the range from what I have read. I'm sadly too OCD to use anything, but factory mags in any gun I own with the exception of Mec-Gar lol. I also saw Aim Surplus's deal on the pouch and mag combo. Hopefully they are OEM, but I had my doubts as well. If what I have is a fake, it certainly is a good one and that's what's bugging me so much.

The previous deal from AIM was the 82/83 mag, mag pouch and leather holster. Those were genuine crossed-swords military mags.

Seriously? That's awesome to hear thanks for the info! May have to a grab a couple if the deal is still up.

Oh yeah also any idea on the indented vs non-indented mags? Both have no visible welds and have the proof mark.

Yes they made 2 different kinds of mags. The deal from Aim right now is $17.95 for a mag in a leather pouch, they are factory mags, I just received 4. Factory mags can be flat at the base or dimpled, they have no visible seam, and have crossed swords towards the bottom. No, I don't know why the 2 different mags. The factory mags have no writing on them, just the crossed swords.

Look for the crossed swords on any surplus mags. That's the military acceptance marking. Like a proof mark for mags.

I said I knew of 2 different styles of mags for the 82/83. I was looking around today and saw one for the .32, it had the dimple at the bottom and was down sized on the front edge, kinda like squeezed down on the front edge the length of the mag. I had never seen this style before and am not sure if it was factory. No, I can't remember where I saw it.

the CZ 83 in 7.65 Browning uses a magazine with different stamping features to deal with the semi-rimmed case. CZ-USA often has them in stock.

That might have been where I saw it. I collect knives, tear gas pens, and all sorts of guns. In a day of searching I probably look at 20-30 different web sites, after a couple of days they all kind of blend together. Well since I'm on the subject, if anyone has Case swing guard knives, tear gas pens, or some gun I don't own, please contact me. lol

Aim Surplus has the CZ 82 surplus magazines with the crossed swords for $17.95 each and they come with a surplus magazine pouch. My two showed up today and are very clean. Have ordered two more as extras.

Glad you liked the mags. Of the 4 I got, one had a broken base plate, it still worked just had the front edge broke off. The mags and price were so nice it was no big deal, I'll pick up an extra base plate somewhere. I'm thinking about maybe 4 more, who knows when they'll be around again at this price and quality.

Two more of the surplus CZ82 mags from Aim Surplus today. Extra clean and showing very little use. Mag pouches are in great shape also. These are the real thing with the crossed swords stamped on them. Great buy at only $17.95 each. Gettem while they last. :)
