That top round presses against the bottom of the slide when the slide is forward.  The pressure from the rounds in the magazine and the magazine spring can make it tough.

Those darn XD 5" Tacticals we bought a few months back basically take two thumbs/hands to push the magazine release down with a full magazine and the slide forward.  Lock the slide back or no magazine at all and they are easy as can be to push down.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Polishing the V and round part in the mag release solved my stiff mag release problem?  Maybe you need to polish it more or check the mags for a burr or something?

Mine isnt TERRIBLE, but its nowhere as smooth as my other pistols.

I took the mag release out, lightly polished the angled sections of the bar with 800 grit, then ever so slightly took a bit of the top angle off of the pivoting piece of the mag release.

I took a bit of grease and lubed it up too.

It works, but its still not as smooth/easy to actuate as I want.
