CZC grips don't fit 85 Combat?
« on: March 13, 2019, 08:59:29 PM »
So I got some CZC full size grips but it appears they don't fit properly - is this a known thing, or are these grips just not properly fitted?  First picture is of the bottom of the grip and shows a significant gap between the back side of the grip and the frame, second shows where the hole in the grip doesn't line up, which as a result means the screw doesn't screw down flush in the last pic.

Whoa those were huge, sorry.

Pretty sure that's a grip issue. I thought that the grips are the same for all cz pistols. I haven't tried personally but think that even the older baby dessert eagles have the same grip panel should even be the same with caniks. They are almost identical clones of czs.

The gaps in the first picture are normal. As to the screw hole lining up, it could be the grips or it could be the pistol. You may be able to modify the head of the existing screw or find other screw with a smaller head.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

I replaced the worn plastic grips on my Pre B CZ85 with a set of new/modern soft rubber grips.

The fit is better than on the OPs pistol and that tells me the CZ85 has the same frame dimensions as the CZ75 and has had for years.

But, I will say that (and it's easier on the soft rubber grips) the grip screw holes don't always line up with the frame and grip.  One side may be easy and the other side not.  Or both sides can be easy (replaced the plastic grips on a couple older Compacts with rubber grips, too).

On the ones that are difficult to line up (again, easier on the soft rubber grips) I can put the front in position first, then push forward hard to make the hole in the grip line up with the threaded hole in the frame.

On a grip made of a hard material there's only a couple options.  Send it back and hope the next set lines up better.  Or modify the hole in the grip to allow it to line up better with the threaded hole in the frame.

Good with it.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Well I got them second hand from these very boards so this isn't much of an option =/

Hard to believe there would be such variance in this regard, especially when the original grips fit so well.

That's a problem.

I don't know if a variance in the grips or a variance in frame dimensions/threaded grip screw hole placement, I just know they grip holes and the screw holes in the frame don't always line up.

Could those grips be set intended for a larger framed CZ?  Like a CZ97 or a Tactical Sport?  I have no idea but those pistols have larger frames than the 9MM/.40 S&W CZ75.

^^The Tac Sport uses the same grips as a 75 variant but they are shorter below the scerw hole to fit with the mag well. The CZ 97 dose use different grips.

Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

They came from a member here that had them on an SP-01 with presumably no problem.

Can you lightly file the inside 'drop' edge toward the front ? That may allow the frame hole to line up w grip hole.
I am not familiar with metal grips. Wood has a 'proud' area on the inside surface that can be filed.

That will leave a oblong hole where the grip screw goes in. With 1 panel off can you see if the other grip is seating all the way on the lip on the inside. If you could get that to move forward with minimal work it would be your best bet. Nobody but you will know there ever was a fitment problem that way.

My experience across multiple CZs with either factory aluminum grips or quality aftermarket grips (e.g. Lok grip) is that the problem has to do with the frame.  Sometimes, grip screw holes on R and L do not perfectly match up so a little hand  fitting is needed on the grip panels.

Both grips fully seat to the frame,  the problem is that they cannot slide any farther forward.

The gaps in the first picture are normal. As to the screw hole lining up, it could be the grips or it could be the pistol. You may be able to modify the head of the existing screw or find other screw with a smaller head.
I will have to check this when I get home, I have 3 other metal frame CZ's and don't recall this at all.
