Ruger SP101 357
« on: March 26, 2019, 09:21:58 AM »
So I have had this SP101 for a couple years. I did a little trigger work to it a few months back and just got around to testing it out at the range. I had not fired 357MAG rounds through it in a long time, so figured I would. Good grief! I was punished for doing so. I guess I had forgot how not fun this thing is with 357.

That is really the reason I bought it in the first place, so I am thinking I may sell it. I have an LCR for 38+P and a GP100 Match Champion I run 357 in. I really like the SP101 overall, but I have problems with my hands these days and I guess I just can't grip it enough to control the 357.

Oh, the trigger turned out very nice though! A little polishing and Wolff Spring kit.

Yeah they just ain't no fun at all with .357's. I'm reminded of this as well everytime I shoot my S&W 640 Pro Series with magnums. They are painful and it has nothing to do with being sensitive to recoil. Touching off a  .357 in a small framed revolver is much like getting wacked in the hand with a ball pein hammer.

Have you changed Grips ?
The Hogue Full Rubber MonoGrip w/Finger Grooves does a nice job of reducing felt Recoil

We use them our SP101, .327FM
It bucks pretty good with its stock Grips
Maybe worth <$20.00 to try
So tell me again how Trump was worse then the 8 years before .... AND what's coming after HIM !

While not the monogrip, I did buy a set of black rubber grips for my Security Six and they're about the only way I can shoot full-power loads in it. I take off the pretty wood grips when I want to shoot .357s, but put them back on when I'm done because the revolver is so much more aesthetically pleasing with the wood. Good look finding a solution.

Lots of grip options out there for small frame wheel guns but the downside is adding more grip to tame magnum loads diminishes the small guns usefulness as a deep concealment weapon.

The MonoGrip for the Sp101 really isn't any bigger than the Stock Grips
They really fit your Hand nicely
