CGW SAO Shadow 2 or TSO?
« on: March 13, 2019, 10:44:23 PM »
Hello All,

Well here is my first post ever to a forum.

I?m torn between the TSO or buying a shadow 2 and having CGW do their magic, converting it to SAO, adding a magwell and extending the mags. The main reason for going the shadow 2 route is I have smaller hands, and it seems the shadow is built on a smaller frame which makes it more appealing. However, I?ve  read enough to know I?ll be told I can reduce the grips, change the grips, and to go hold them both etc., which I plan on doing. And yes I plan on sticking to 9mm. I know the point difference, but sticking with 9mm will force me to be more accurate to be competitive. And it?s cheaper because I don?t reload.

So the question is, has anyone fully tricked out the shadow 2 and converted it to SAO? And if so, how does it compare to the TSO?

I have both guns. If ever you don?t have any plans in shooting production or planning to convert to carry optics, then the TSO is your best best.

With the TSO, it?s ready to compete out of the box. You can change the recoil spring to suit your reloads and that?s about it. My TSO trigger pull was 1# 3.2 oz out of the box. I just change the recoil spring to a 10# to suit my reloads and shooting style. I can shoot it in limited minor like that or install the red dot and shoot open minor.

For the shadow 2, you can shoot it in production out of the box. You can have the slide milled for a red dot and shoot carry optics with longer base pads. You can still have CGW install the goodies except for the SAO trigger to be legal in carry optics. Or you can leave it DA/SA, get extended basepads, have CGW tune it/mill the slide for a red dot.

Thank you for the reply. I love everything about the TSO. My only concern is the sIze of grip and trigger reach.

In your opinion, if I was to do a full package through CGW and convert the Shadow 2 to SAO being it is supposedly a smaller frame and grip, allowing a better purchase for my grip and trigger reach, would I ever be able to make it perform similar to the TSO? If I had larger hands, I would run TSO all the way. But I don?t.

Thanks again for your time.

Welcome aboard!! I too, have both pistols (both flavors of shadow 2, actually ? My TSO is a .40)

I too have been thinking of going SAO on the black one. The Shadow 2 Trigger is very smooth, and the gun is exceedingly accurate, but the TSO Trigger is on another level. Truly perfect. Whatever you decide, you really can?t go wrong. Both are excellent platforms. The Orange out of the box is untouchable, and my favorite weapon of all time. But had it not been for my first shadow, I wouldn?t have been so enamored with the CZ line as I have become.

Best of luck on your decision, there isn?t a wrong choice here. I have Neanderthal paws, so I?m no help there, but don?t think you?d have issue with a TSO. Best way to know is to find one and fondle each for yourself. If you?re out my way, you could try mine.
My trio: pardon the dirtyness of the TSO, it gets used a lot.  ;D (all 3 do)

I’ve got a few CZ’s...

Since it sounds like youre ok shooting Limited Minor, I would personally get the TSO (Provided you can find one).

Less work out of the box. All factory parts. IMO its more visually appealing and I personally think it was slightly more ergonomic than a Shadow 2.

I really appreciate all the responses everyone. I was able to hold and manipulate both the shadow 2 and the regular TS. The shadow 2 fit my hand like a glove. So it looks like I?ll be going with the shadow 2 and have CGW convert it to SAO with upgrading other parts, adding a magwell, extending the mags, and some lok grips.

However, I?m aware that while this is my first CZ, I have probably started a slippery slope and will be taking out loans for other CZ?s. Such is life. Just gonna have to find another place to hide them and keep my wife from finding out.

Thanks again all.
