...recoil rig lifespan???
« on: April 24, 2019, 07:43:38 AM »
Forgive me if this has been previously covered. I've gotten different opinions on this from CZ USA, Cajun Gunworks and CZ Custom??? I didn't see a mention of this in the manual???
I've opted to err on the side of caution and keep an assembly with <500 rounds on it installed for EDC. I'm working on running the wheels off another setup at the range to get an idea of what to expect. I've got about 500 rounds of Winchester 124gr NATO on that one. No problems.
What are your thoughts? Do you replace the entire rig at a certain interval? Just the outer spring? How long have you run without problems?

Thanks :-)

The recoil springs that came with my gun only lasted 450 rounds before the captured spring fractured and had to be replaced. The new springs CZ sent me became weak and started tossing my brass in to the next county after about 1200 more rounds.  After that I started changing the outside spring every 1000 rounds of range use and keep new springs in it for EDC. The more I shoot this accurate little beast the better it feels.

Hiya cousinmark and thx for your thread. I'd say that if the smith at cz-usa,and the folks you spoke to at cajun gun works and CZC couldn't answer your question, might re phrase the question to them or ask them to re phrase the answer. Seems like it might just be a simple misunderstanding. I had enough failure to feed, fire, and eject issues that after 2000rds just became a safe queen. The recoil spring/rig should be fine for many, many thousands of rounds, and with it having a five year warranty, I'd let cz-usa diagnose if and when you may need it replaced.  Be well.

Although I keep a fresh outer recoil spring in my Rami for EDC at all times, I've probably got a good 2,000 - 3,000 rounds or more on the inner compound recoil spring since new.

I noticed a couple hundred rounds ago that the pistol started having trouble chambering flat tip Barnes TAC-X hollow points, jamming against the bottom of the Rami's rather steep feed ramp. Never had this problem before, the pistol had been 100% reliable shooting various NATO fmj and +P defense loads using the Barnes TAC-X bullet (e.g. Corbon DPX) since the gun was new. I put in heavier mag springs, but that did not eliminate the problem entirely. I had to switch to the "new & improved" Corbon DPX with its in-house designed round nose copper HP in order to feed reliably. Unfortunately, Corbon has been sold and the new company is having trouble filling orders.

I'm thinking that the compound recoil spring may be getting tired and may not have enough oomph left in it to bring the flat tip HP to battery reliably.

Will try an all new recoil spring assembly and see if that eliminates the problem.

Hi adrian, In fairness to all the vendors I asked they each qualified what they said as being an opinion. CGW actually posts 1000 rounds on their site as a suggested change interval for the assembly if it's for EDC. These are fairly small springs and round wire not flat to boot. I don't expect it to be a Glock :-) Now I'm curious what you did with you Rami, have you tried a new recoil rig or sent her back to KS???
    Thanks :-)
