It finally happened on my Ruger GP100 revolver!? Very surprised it was on this type if gun, Factory Blazer Brass 38 Special. I fired it went poof! I thought nothing of it thinking it was just a bad round. Fired again not checking, bullet hit target - no concern. Next shot poof again. I unloaded looked through barrel, bullet lodged. Have tried to pound it out with brass rod, no success won't budge. Thoughts other than what an idiot?

Oil the inside of the barrel. Then pound it. Worked for my squib.

Squibs can happen with any gun since it's the ammo that is the cause. The lodged bullet will come out but you will likely need to be aggressive in smacking it back down the bore. Just make sure you have a non marring rod like the brass you mentioned.
You are very lucky is all I can say.

If the brass rod won't do it, and it doesn't always do it. You or your gunsmith will have to drill it out. If you do it yourself try and find a tube that will fit inside the barrel and that a drill will fit in so you don't mess up your rifling.

Check your barrel you may have more than one bullet stuck.  A local gunsmith had a Blackhawk barrel on display that he had sawed in half length ways with four bullets stuck in it the last bullet was in the forcing cone and locked up the cylinder.

I don't see how the second shot could've hit the target unless the first actually made through as well. If you had two that went "poof", I wouldn't shoot any more out of that box for sure.

I've had squibs before and always with factory ammo.  I trust reloads more than most factory ammo these days.  The first time was like wth just happened?  The next time I knew it was a squib.  Pound it out, don't use wood or you splinter it and break it off in the barrel making an even bigger problem.  I use a nylon rod to knock them out.  Put the barrel in the freezer and it may make it easier to get the squib out.

Had a squib shooting my Ruger PCC last week. First time for me as well. I was also lucky as the squibs cartridge failed to extract which foiled my attempt to put another round through the barrel.


Ammo was stock Federal Aluminum case 115gr ball.

Blow back action would open, dropping pressure, before the barrel ruptured. You'd think gas in the face and nothing going down range would have been a clue however.

Update good people.  3 bullets jammed.  I bought the copper rod and extracted with ease.  They would not budge with copper rod that was not form fit.  With no wiggle room they popped right out. Cleaned it and shot it today. All good.  Woohoo!
