My P-09 arrived today.
« on: April 04, 2019, 09:02:42 PM »
After drooling over pistols I couldn't have in CA, I just completed my CZ polymer wish list today.  A P-09 40 S&W came in.  Time to clean it for a Sunday range session.

Very nice set of poly CZs. After you shoot the P09, please let us know which of the three you like best.

I'm interested in the comparison to a 75B in 40 S&W (CZC).  So far the trigger pull on the P-09 is about 4 lbs before cleaning.  A little dry fire time with a snap cap should improve it a bit.

Definitely will post the comparison(s).

Just got my CZ75B .40 S&W.

The P09 .40 S&W definitely has a better single action trigger pull.  The CZ75B will take some polishing and maybe parts replacement to measure up.  Mine has the most "camming" of any CZ DA/SA pistol I've bought.  Never seen a hammer move back that far in single action mode.  It doesn't seem to be real heavy and it feels, sitting here at the house, to be very predictable, but there is a long trigger movement between where it stops (firing pin block up but hammer not moving yet) and there is no wall after that first one.  You just keep pulling and sometimes you think it's ready to release the hammer and it does.  Other times it doesn't and the trigger continues to move rearward till it does release the hammer.

The right hammer should take care of that.

Right now I see me ordering a set of soft rubber grips (I really like the way those feel in my hand).  A lanyard loop mainspring cap (put them on every CZ that doesn't come that way out of the box.)

Additional parts will be the reduced power trigger return spring, firing pin block spring - I usually leave the mainspring alone and the recoil spring, too.  Up to now I've not been much for shooting powderpuff loads so I keep that factory recoil spring.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I find it interesting that we are comparing a P-09 to a 75B and vice versa.  So far I've noticed that the (2016) P-09 has a "normal" CZ trigger with the scratchy SA pull.  So far the P-09 pull is an expected 4 lbs.  The trigger on the P-09 is not as smooth as the trigger on my P-07 .40 S&W (2014).  The P-07 feels like someone already worked on it smoothing/polishing it. I'm sure that if I'm left alone tonight I'll try a little polishing to smooth out the P-09 a little.  I'm probably going to order parts from CGW or CZC for this one down the road.   All in all, I'm very happy with the P-09 at this point and wish that CA had them on the roster so I could have bought it sooner.

Good Luck with the 75B.

Timetofly, funny you mention the older P07 having a better trigger.  Same way for me.  My P07 DUTY (.40 S&W) came out of the box with a nice 3&1/2 lb. SA trigger pull.  I got a P09 9MM next and it was okay, but not as good as the P07.  My next was a P09 .40 S&W and it was not as good as the 9MM P09.

M1A4ME,  It goes to show CZ is consistent with its manufacturing over the years ;)

Very nice set of poly CZs. After you shoot the P09, please let us know which of the three you like best.

Ok, just got settled after a long day getting new tires on the car shopping etc.  The town I live in takes weekends off and stores here are 10-5 so getting things done on a weekend requires going into city.  Love it here for real!  Friday I went to the LGS to buy powder and replace an Up-Lula that I left on a table on at the range.  As I was being checked out the owner asked if I had used an Up-Lula before.  I told him that I left mine at the gun range and was replacing it.  He went to the back of the store and came back with my Up-Lula and handed it to me.  Someone found it at the range and brought it to him incase someone was buying an Up-Lula it might get back to the owner.  Did I land in the right place or what?

I went to the outdoor range today and I shot three CZ pistols chambered in 40 S&W.  A 75B ( 3.0# CZC hammer, short reset...) that has probably 12,000 rounds through it, a stock P-07 50 rounds through it (3.5# smooth trigger) and a new P-09 (typical 4# scratchy CZ trigger)  I shot the same 180gn reload that used a 180gn RMR flat nosed FMJ, CFE Pistol, CCI 500 primers, and CBC casings.  All were loaded in the same reloading session, for what that is worth.

Not surprisingly the P-09 and the P-07 shot basically the same group where the P-07 was slightly better.  Both the P-07 and P-09 seemed to slide around in my hand equally.  I guess that some tape of some sort or grip is in order.  Any suggestions will be very welcome. The 75 B had the best group out of all of the three and I attribute that to muscle memory from all of the rounds i've put through it.   I'll post pics in the morning.

Pics from yesterday.  I can't shoot for beans but I love shooting.  I shot 50 rounds at each target.
