New Shadow 2- heavy trigger pull
« on: April 23, 2019, 06:21:07 PM »
Just got a new Shadow 2 with a 2018 date. I have measured the trigger pull with a Lyman electronic gauge and the double action is over 12 lbs and the single action averages 4 lbs 12.7 ounces. After watching several YouTube unboxings and reviews, those that measure the pulls ?out of the box? seem to be consistently between 8-9 lbs da and 3-3 1/2 sa. Is this something I should be contacting cz-USA about? Will it get better after more shooting? I know I can change springs or put a Cajun kit in it, but it seems like it should have been better out of the box.

My DA is 9 lbs 8 oz, but feels much less because it's incredibly smooth.
It's the best DA trigger I've ever seen.
My SA is 4 lbs even, it also feels somewhat less.

These were right out of the box.

Over 12 lbs?  That's what my Colt Model 1917 WWI revolver is.
You should call CZ Cust Svs.

Hiya UKI2932 and thanks for your thread. I've gotten many new cz's but not having your measurement tool, really never knew what the DA weight was. Cz-usa will take your call with the intend of satisfying you. I'd imagine the smith there will ask well how did it feel when you were shooting in DA. Your perception will prolly determine the course of action. And it should not cost you extra to have it meet factory standards, which they can determine if the QC was the issue. Look forward to your day at the range report. Be well.

Hi,

I would contact CZ USA about this also.  My 2018 Shadow 2 had a SA of about 3 lbs and smooth as could be.

Great news: It was my guage! I thought before I called CZ that I would have someone else check the pull with a different guage so I took it to the gunsmith at my range this afternoon and he measured it at 3.5 lbs average. Now instead of CZ I need to call Lyman.

Three fairly simple spring changes and two parts (~$60 total) can get the DA down to 7 lbs and SA around 2.5 lbs.

Please tell, which springs/parts?

Lighter mainspring (I use 11-1/2#), with extended FP and reduced power FP spring.

If you want to go even lighter, you can use the 8-1/2# hammer spring.  I don't want to use Federal primers, and don't trust myself with that light a trigger pull anyway.

In any case, you can get this kit that has both hammer springs + the extended FP and reduced power FP spring.  https://cajungunworks.com/product/54440-competition-ultra-lite-kit-for-shadow-and-85-series/

BTW, I got a Lyman electronic gauge, and sent it back.  Mine was useless!

This ^.

The trigger return spring will take about 1/2 lbs off the DA and SA pull. These springs break periodically, so it?s not a bad idea to replace after a while as preventative maintenance.  Do yourself a favor and get the CGW trigger pin w/ slave pin to make it an easier install.

The biggest difference will be going with a lighter hammer spring.  Some prefer 13 lbs, others go even further and install the 8.5 lbs spring.  Me, I chose to be a ?betweener? at 11.5 lbs.  If you go 11.5 lbs or lower you?ll want to get the CGW extended firing pin and reduced firing pin spring.

There?s quite a few videos on Youtube describing how to do the disassembly and re-assembly. Most of the vids are using a SP-01 but it?s basically the same internals.
