Clean your Kadet mags

Last month I took my Kadet II to a falling plate match and it was a catastrophe.  Could not get the gun to run a full magizine without a jam.   Was horribly discouraged and went to a back-up gun.  Even got beat by a 7 year old kid 2 times out of 3, whipped like a rented mule. The shame of it all (Keep shootin' Eli! I want a rematch!).

Got home and broke everything on the Kadet II down to include the mags.  Found the extractor was a bit sticky easily fixed with a fine stone and some oil.  The primary problem was the mags.  Even the new mags were dirty and the red plastic followers were not smooth.  Dropped the mag tubes in a solvent tank and cleaned up the follower rough edges (mainly on the bottom of the follower at the rear, some at the front) with a fine jewelers file.  Cleaned everything up and put it back together.  Ran a 150 round test no issues.  Re-cleaned and took it to the match yesterday and 300 rounds fired, one ammo related stove-pipe; gun ran perfect. 

Now if I would just stop missing those blasted 2 inch plates...Can't miss fast enough to win!

Just finished a bowling pin top match.  Let another competitor use my pistol as well for the match as his would not function safely.  400 rounds total fired under match conditions, 0 malfunctions of any type.  Others were using Ruger and Browning dedicated 22s and all had issues, two stopped running altogether.  Tied for second place, naturally the guy I tied with was the one also using my gun.   No good turn goes unpunished!!! 

Started match with a clean gun and freshly cleaned mags.

Yep, 300-500 rounds between cleanings is all I will go on the chamber, breech face, ramp, firing pin hole.  If it is clean, the Kadet is more reliable than my Ruger 22/45.  I've gone through maybe 20 bullseye matches without an alibi when shooting the Kadet.  My old magazines don't have any rough edges after 25,000 rounds each, but I do clean them regularly.
