Long Story - P-01
« on: July 01, 2019, 07:32:52 PM »
This may be long and I may ramble but please bear with me.  I'm a recent retiree who has only been into handguns a couple of years. A couple of years ago I decided that since retirement was coming I would need a new hobby so I decided I was going to learn to shoot pistols and take up reloading.  I had bought a Glock G30 (.45 acp) about 8 years earlier that I had never really shot very much. I sold a high end deer rifle and bought a G19(wanted a 9mm) and a reloading press and a bunch of reloading gear.  I tend to go overboard with my interest and started spending hours on the internet reading about all kinds of pistols and watched a ton of youtube reviews.  I decided I needed a non-polymer, full size, hammer fired pistol so I traded the G30 (never liked it much) for a used Sig P220 and a couple months later bought a new P226.  Later I decided that a handgun guy needed a 1911 so I bought a Dan Wesson PM9.  I had read about how the 1911s had good triggers and were fun to shoot, but was blown away when I started shooting the PM9.  I started saving up for a semi custom.  The Sigs are fine pistols but mine started getting neglected because I was shooting the 1911 so much.  For some reason I started studying up on CZs and became attracted to the Shadow 2. A couple of months ago, I sold my Sigs and bought a S2 and again was blown away.  The gun felt great in my hand (like the PM9, but different).  To me, the trigger is almost as good as the 1911.  Now when I'm shooting, I have a hard time putting down the S2 to shoot the DW.  Almost no gun stores in my area sell CZs.  I have no friends who have one or know anything about them.  I do most of my shooting in the back yard and on occasion go to a local range.  I've yet to see a CZ at the range.  CZs have to be the best kept secret in the gun world.  Anyway, I ordered a P-01 for my wife today.  I still have my G19 but I think I will sell it to buy a P-07 or a 75 compact or a SP 01, or a P-09.  I'll have to figure that one out later.  CZs are great guns and I'm really enjoying this forum.  Thanks.
I had rather be hated for what I am
than loved for what I'm not.

I think a lot of people shoot/buy whatever their gun shops sell and some shops don't stock CZ although they have become pretty popular these days.  You have very good taste with the PM9, S2, and P01.  The SP-01 tactical is also very good, but would be pretty similar to your S2 for use I would think.  It's always good (I feel) to have a nice striker fired pistol.  I really like the M&P 2.0, but a lot of people prefer the Glock so...  Anyways welcome to the forum!  8)

I've been shooting for more than 50 years and have also gone thru many 'phases' of interest - semi-auto pistols, AR's, 1911's, bolt-action rifles, shotguns and revolvers.  When you're new, it's not unusual to want to try everything and buy everything you see but, that can get expensive.

If you get bored with punching paper targets, check-out some of the matches at your local range.  You already own a couple of great pistols that would serve you well in everything from USPSA to IDPA (for your P-01) and bowling pins.  You don't need to be a great shot, you just need to want to get better.  I shoot steel matches with my CZ's and pins with my Colt 1911 Commander in .45 ACP.  I find that I hang-on to my handguns longer when I assign them specific purposes: CZ SP-01 and 75B for falling and speed steel matches, 1911's for pins and my P-01's/75 Compacts for IDPA.  My SP-01 is a CZ Custom job that I eventually want to use for USPSA but haven't started that yet.  Then, I have my pistols that are mainly for home and self-defense: Walther PPQ 45, HK VP9 and VP9SK, Colt .38 Detective Special and my range toys (too numerous to mention all) that I use mostly for target shooting.

Kudos for taking the time to learn how to reload.  The satisfaction of working-up a load that's absolutely 'perfect' for your particular firearm is something that very few new shooters, like you, will ever know.
