P-09 reset problem--fixed
« on: October 08, 2019, 11:07:31 PM »
Posting this for anyone who might run into the problem and is researching it here down the road.  I got a new p09 9mm earlier this year, pretty much immediately got full CGW kit in it; but then with the next few range trips, somewhere around 30-50 rounds in, the reset would hang up--first gritty and gross, then just getting caught--I could advance trigger shoe with forward pressure but it'd catch again w/next shot.  Field strip--no apparent problem, reassemble, no problem for another 10+ shots, then stuck again.  What was killing me was I couldn't reproduce it w/dry fire under any circumstance, making diagnosis a real SOB.

Long story short, after 10+ rounds of part swapping with my other couple omegas and then range trips, with a conversation with David in between, I did 100% confirm that the OEM trigger bar support spring was the culprit; really surprising as there was no visible or tactile evidence (to me) that it shouldn't work.  It even worked for 50+ rounds in my P-07 fine, but as soon as back in P-09, nope.  Got replacement from David, now have 150 flawless rounds through it.  I wonder if somehow it wasn't popping out of position during firing, but then sliding back in during field stripping, dunno, either way fixed and I'm happy.

Offered for your consideration--good luck, be safe.

Yes this has happened before. The spring likely got bent too far down during your mods and all that really needed to be done was to bend it back up and increase tension on the trigger bar.

Thanks for posting the resolution of your trigger bar spring problem.  I remember polishing the contact point and the groove in the trigger bar when getting my first P-09, and then making some adjustment to the spring, but never really had any problems with it.  Glad David helped you with it.

Yeah I'd seen that posted before, but no amount of bending back or forth of the OEM spring fixed the problem (and I hadn't deliberately bent it during install to start with); part of why I initially discounted it as the issue; couldn't then identify it until I got a new one in there--FWIW.
