VZ 2008 Ejection issue
« on: April 24, 2019, 02:34:40 AM »
So I recently picked up this 2008 and I finally had time to go to the range last week and had some issues with ejecting and loading. (ammo used was fiocchi fmj)
On another note judging by my serial number I've got a first gen 2008?

-Eject Problems: The spent casing would get caught by the bolt carrier as it was loading a new round, used 5 different mags and had the same issue. After clearing the spent casing the bolt carrier wouldn't go into battery and would go out and I would have to force it either in or out. This was intermittent over 300 rounds. After bringing it home I noticed a lot of brass shavings around the action, is this normal or probably part of the issue? (bolt carrier is tabbed btw)

-I also noticed that the bolt carrier seems to get caught on something when I try to charge it, like the bolt moves smooth for the first inch or two of travel then it catches something. And i've been able to lock it where it hangs up, no where near the bolt hold open btw.

Glad I was able to find this rifle and hopefully I'll be able to solve these issues. So anybody have an idea?

Fiocci is brass.  Try it w/ steel.

VZ2008s don't have bevels on lower edges of the rails in front of the bolt locking lugs.

If no issue w/ steel then this thread should cover your issue: https://czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=78148.0

Questions:
1. look at spent brass: Is it smooth and unmarked/scratched down the side of the case?

2. Do you experience the same problem with steel case ammo?

If the answer to these questions are no, see the post on the receiver difference between CSA and other vz.58 variants.

If that is your problem, you can take down some metal of the bottom of front corners of locking piece slot in the receiver with a file or dremmel or just avoid brass and just use steel-cased ammo.

Some Century rifles have serious receiver tolerance issues as well causing the carrier to cycle too low in the receiver.  From looking at your photos I don't believe you have that problem.

The post above is opinion, and I am probably totally wrong, so please pardon me if I offend anyone in any way. I am speaking only for myself and just sharing my thoughts, not trying to start an argument with anyone, and if you disagree with anything I have said, I concede your correct.

CP -- Good to see you back.

Looking at his photo again, that striker spring looks like the gun was cycled w/ that spring in the wrong location as well, bend it.
