Czechmate compensator
« on: February 11, 2013, 04:47:02 PM »
Hey Angus, just got my Czechmate and I LOVE it.

It says that the compensator was designed for use with major PF ammo.  Can I still use it with minor PF ammo?  I don't want to try because it doesn't say why, and I don't want to damage anything.  I know it would kinda defeat the purpose of a compensator, but I like the weight and balance with the c-more and compensator attached.  Also, I only shoot 9mm minor (don't feel comfortable with any major load below .40).

Besides, it's more challenging to win a match shooting minor :D

HI ANGUS!
I also would like to know, is there any cz-75 variant that cant take a compensator. I love the look of the czechmate compensator but I will NEVER have 3k to throw down on one. I would love to have a Phantom with a compensator, or even just a regular cz-75? Any suggestions or pricing for these perimeters?
Thank you mate!

The Czech Mate should run light ammo fairly easily. You might need a  lighter recoil spring I think i have a 10lb in mine. The comp will still work even with minor loads.
Right now there is no easy way to fit a  comp because the barrel needs to be longer, and the only long barrels available are for the thin style barrel.
Biggest problem with the CZ design is the comp has to be removed to take the barrel out for cleaning, thus it needs a  coarse thread that will not gaul.

thanks angus love you man. you said its not easy, but that means its possible right? so what would that kind of work cost? and do you think czcustom will ever get to the point of having an easy way to compensate a CZ?

Thanks for the info Angus, and thanks for your quality work on my Czechmate :)  I'll give it a try with some minor ammo and if I start getting FTE or slide problems I'll pick up a lighter spring.  Much appreciated!

Czechmate recoil spring & main spring

Heya Angus, your humble servant seeks your absolute wisdom!

I talked to you before about shooting minor power-factor loads (ie Winchester White Box) out of the Czechmate with the compensator attached.  You mentioned that I'd need to replace the recoil spring, and said that you thought you were using an 10 lb in yours.

I spoke with CZ-USA and they told me the Czechmate ships stock with a 16 lb recoil spring.  I am going to order an 10 lb spring from them (unless you advise me to do otherwise) so I can shoot light-loaded factory ammo with the compensator.

1) Is the 10 lb heavy enough to protect the slide stop?  I do a lot of shooting and don't want to damage my precious Czechmate because of a too-light recoil spring.

2) I don't know what the stock weight is on the main spring, but I'm sure it's proportional to the stock 16 lb recoil spring.  If I replace the recoil spring with an 10 lb, would you recommend replacing the main spring as well, and if so, what weight would you suggest for the main spring?  I'm only shooting targets right now, and intend to shoot open/limited USPSA using only minor ammo, for your information.  Major power-factor ammo need not apply.

Thank you oh wise master of all things masterful, your humble servant is forever indebted to you!

A 10#/11" recoil spring is commonly used for minor PF loads on virtually all full size CZ 75s.  My CZ 75B slide is probably even lighter, but I don't know that for a fact.  It shouldn't hurt a thing.   Trust the man.

Roger that.  Going from a 16# to a 10# will need a lighter mainspring as well, won't it?  I've never tinkered with springs before so please excuse me for being oblivious to it all :P

It may do. Best thing is to try a few combinations until you get reliable ignition and extraction. Don't neglect the mag springs either, if they are weak you may get a few failures to feed when you go with a lighter recoil spring.
