Problem with 455 Safety
« on: April 24, 2019, 02:37:29 AM »
I just purchased a CZ 455 Lux, and I can't seem to get the safety to work. It won't push forward...it absolutely doesn't want to move. I am new to this gun, so I am wondering if there is anything I may be doing wrong...however, in videos I have seen users simply snap/rotate it forward with their thumb. Mine won't budge.

Thanks in advance for any help...

Two guesses, first is the rifle cocked? It needs to be ready to fire for the safety to be engaged. And secondly take a look at a video on how to disassemble the 455 bolt. Maybe the safety wasn't pushed all the way down into the bolt when it was assembled. and now it cant cam the striker back because everything isn't in line. What I'm trying to say is I think the part of the safety that works as a pivot is sitting up to high. The 455 bolt disassemble video would make this clearer. A call to CZ wouldn't be out of line if you cant get it figured out. I would bet they consider a non functioning safety a priority.

It does feel like something is blocking it, like it's bumping into something that won't let it move..meaning it's not just tight. I'll give the video a try. Thanks!

I had the same problem with my new 455.
I found that the safety was catching on the corner of the bolt when trying to push it forward.
You could see exactly where it was catching.
You will have to take the bolt apart and remove the safety lever, but, that is easy.
I took a 600 grit stone and took off the a touch, just smoothed the edge a bit, and it now works perfect.
Just don't get carried away. Just a single very light pass to smooth the edge.

I just bought a new 455 American 22 wmr and I have the same safety problem with mine. I'm going to have to get it working correctly.

I'm not quite sure why, but today I swapped trigger springs and the safety works fine now. I removed the stock spring and installed a Mcarbo spring, trigger is much lighter and the safety works fine.
