Why do I do this to myself?
« on: August 19, 2019, 07:10:59 PM »
I was at my usual shop to buy an OD P01 that came in on consignment. By the time I got off work and made it there it was gone. Oh well, not a major problem, I'll just keep looking. Then the evil man behind the counter pulled a Beretta 92X Centurion and a 92X Performance from his safe. Now there's 2 more pistols I feel an overwhelming need for.

eventually you will figure it.

sometimes you get the bear, and sometimes the bear gets you.

Force yourself to walk away and think things through before you pounce. I learned this several years ago not just with buying guns. You get that sense of urgency and make a purchase then find a day or so later that you really don't need, want, like what you've bought.
I think that initial rush of urgency to make a purchase is a form of mania that a large percentage of us are afflicted with.

I was looking forward to the release of the 92x assuming that all models would have the frame-mounted safety.  But their web site shows that only the Performance competition model has the frame-mounted safety, while the "every-man" models still have the typical slide-mounted safety.  I don't get it....

A lot of us think the slide mounted "G" decocker is vastly superior to a frame mounted safety. I'm assuredly not alone, considering how many pistols in so many variations all with slide mounted safeties or decockers Beretta sells every year.

At 60 I doubt I have enough time left to "figure it out".

I usually can and do walk away, at first. I'm waiting for a sub $700 price on a 92X GR Centurion before I'll buy or trade into one. Jack, the shop owner knows what I'm willing to pay. We might work out a trade for a couple of guns I don't like much or shoot anymore. He wants my Lone Wolf Alpha Wolf 45 PCC and matching Glock 21 with optics and some other significant upgrades. It will probably cost him a 92X Centurion and a CZ-P01 or maybe a PCR.

and that's fine, signature Beretta hardware with which I'm well familiar from my military days.

I just thought they would take this "X" opportunity to market a significantly new/updated product.  a G model with a vertec grip and (finally) replaceable sights.  yawn.  (very similar to M9A3?)

I'd like to see a truly compact version:  maybe take the smaller Cheetah frame, chamber it for 9mm, give it the same "X" features, and offer it in both double stack (10 round?) and single stack (6 round?) versions.

I had been eyeballing their LTT Elite (G), but was waiting to see what the 92X would bring.  but it appears to be a less polished version of the same gun  (except of course for the high end competition 92X - which is unattainable/unreasonable for us average Joe's).

The M9 was being fielded during my time in the Army, '79-'88. The worn out inaccurate 1911s really needed to go. I was amazing to go from a pistol that might group 4 inches at 7 yards to one I could keep inside a 1 inch circle. I hated to see the 3 inch S&W model 15s, we used on courier duty, get replace by the M11. Those model 15s were accurate and fun to shoot. We could carry FBI loads because we were transporting keying material.

Had an LTT, dumped it for a Wilson Combat CenTac. The CenTac had all the features I wanted at a price that was lower than modifying the LTT to the same standard.  Plus I like the Centurion version better. The 92X has pretty much the same features as the LTT except the Elite II hammer and being a VerTec frame instead of an M9A1.

THAT'S how I ended up getting an 805!!!   :P

My favorite local shop listed one on their FAZEbook page in April.  I was checking in, because they were cerakoting an old Star Firestar for me, and I saw it - the first one I THINK I'd ever seen (they've only been in-country, what?  5 years now?  :-[ ).  I INSTANTLY fell in love, and by the time I'd scraped together some stuff to trade in with some cash, it was GONE!!!!   :o :o :o

From there, it was game: ON... 'til I got one, AND decked it out with all the desired accoutrements!

I've done it.

Browning BDM - just something about the lines of it and the name made me think it would be a good one.  Nah.

XDM 5.25" 9MM (the competition model) -  I mean, "match" barrel, adjustable sights.  Another nope.

Recently the XDM 5" Tactical in .45 acp - a striker fired 1911 (.45 acp, grip safety and ambidextrous thumb safties) that felt good in my hand and even shoots pretty decent.  But I didn't need it.

A last is that M&P 2.0 5" FDE 9MM - pretty, the 2.0's are said to be more accurate than the 1.0's (it was typed on the internet that S&W had fixed the inaccuracy issues of the 1.0 models).  Another nope.  It cost $415 new.  I've added about $360 worth of Apex parts to it and it's finally on par with my average CZs.  At the cost of a couple CZs (almost).

And yesterday, I saw an ad for FNX long slide 40's for $299 (new ones) and darn near ordered one.  But, no thumb safeties so it was a no go.  Then, I kept looking at the web site and saw they had FNS duty pistols - with thumb safeties - for the same price.  For $600 I could buy one of each, swap the frames and have the long slide .40 S&W FNS with thumb safeties.  Really?  $600 for another pistol that might not shoot like the P07 and P09????  It's tough to walk away, sometimes.  I really don't think I'll ever have/buy a pistol that will shoot like the P09 (the P07 is close, but not quite) and I really don't know why I keep looking.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?
