CZ Sp-01 tactical upgrade kit
« on: August 25, 2019, 01:40:33 PM »
I have a CZ Sp-01 tactical and could use some info on upgrading the hammer springs, short reset, etc.

I'm looking at the 75205 IDPA Production Legal Decocker Kit or  the 75200 Defensive Carry Package Decocker kit, OR ???????

Or, even order parts individually for best kit possible if that is a better option.

I realize the hammers are slightly different between the 2 kits-- Can anyone tell me exactly what is different between the 2 kits? (web site doesn't explain much on the actual contents of the kits)

I really don't care if I have a production legal kit or not as I only shoot local events and for those we have very loose rules as far as what meets production legal. I do have a shadow if I need to make production at other shoots.

What I'm looking for is the lightest double action with the crispest single stage break (doesn't have to be the lightest but I would like the crispest possible.

I have an original SP-01 shadow that has a pretty decent trigger so that is close to what I'm looking for (or maybe a slightly crisper single stage break  (double action on that gun is about 5.5# and very smooth).

I guess my biggest concern is the hammer difference between the Race hammer and the Production legal hammer (which one is best?) and what trigger return spring comes with either kit.

I don't need a new trigger as I have re-worked the production trigger to fit my finger and take the bite out, I have also drilled it for an overtravel screw but at the moment I am not using that adjustment.

Right now the SP-01 tactical is at 3.5# single action & just under 7# double action with stock firing pin, lighter firing pin return spring, lighter FPB spring, stock lifter spring, stock trigger return spring, 11# hammer spring with 2mm spacer on spring, light polishing on only the actual contact points, 2500 rounds through gun 'mostly suppressed'. Double action is very smooth and just livable and while the single action is smooth the sear pull across the hammer notch is looooong (smooth but not crisp at all)

I have thick skin so all comments appreciated.

The Production Legal Hammer has slightly deeper hammer hooks than a Race Hammer. Depending on the pistol set up and the shooter this can translate to a bit more trigger travel to the Single Action break and more perceptible SA creep. The Race hammer has slightly shorter hammer hooks this moves things in the crisper direction.

As far as hammer hook depth i believe it goes: Factory Hammer, Shadow Hammer, Comp/Production legal Hammer, Race Hammer.

The Comp and Race Hammers have a redesigned geometry that reduces or eliminates the hammer camming that can be present in a factory stock CZ pistol.

The primary options to lower the DA pull weight is to reduce the weight of the Hammer Spring and the Trigger Return Spring. Seeing as how you already have the 11# hammer spring installed you may want to check out a reduced power Trigger Return Spring. This can reduce the Double Action pull by up to 1/2 pound. You can take the hammer spring down to an 8.5# but this limits your primer selection while maintaining consistent primer ignition.

Evening Tok36

Thanks, that helps me a lot about understanding the hammer differences.

Now to figure out if any other parts in the kits are different.

The hammer is the only difference that i am aware of in the two kits. Is a shorter SA reset something you are after? The reduction in reset is a product of the replacement Firing Pin and Firing Pin Block Lifter Arm that are included in the kits.

It looks like you already have some of kit parts installed. You have the lighter firing pin spring, lighter FPB spring and a lighter Hammer Spring. If you are not interested in the Short Reset parts you may just want to pick up a Race Hammer, Floating Trigger Pin, Improved Firing Pin Retaining Pin, Reduced Power TRS and Hammer Pins.

Evening Tok36

That's exactly what I have just been doing for the last 1/2 hour.

I can live without the short reset as my current reset isn't too bad (I basically reset on recoil so that gnats ass little dry fire click isn't my cup of tea).

But I am using a standard firing pin, I shoot almost exclusively CCI primers & so far I haven't had a single no-fire but I do have the 11.5 hammer spring spaced with a 2mm spacer to give bit more tension.

I am thinking about adding an extended firing pin just to get a little more forgiveness & allow me to remove that spacer, so if I am going to do that might as well go with the short reset parts.

It is cheaper to get the kit if I go with the short reset parts.

For some reason the carry kit with the better CGW race hammer shows a little higher trigger pull weight so I'm questioning the trigger return spring that comes with it.

It's not the trigger return spring, its the hammer hook geometry of the CGW race hammer vs the CZ competition hammer.  From what I understand, the CGW Race hammer is slightly more crisp than the CZ Comp Hammer.  I only own CZ Comp hammers so I can't confirm this to be true.  The CZ competition hammer is far crisper than the OEM hammer on the tactical.  I think the CZ comp hammer is slightly lighter than the CGW race hammer in SA.

I would absolutely go for the kit with the short reset.  You also have to get the type 2 disconnector to realize the full benefit.  It eliminates the takeup and and really cleans up the trigger pull.  The extended firing pin will allow you to run an even lighter main spring that will drop the DA even farther.

Make sure you get the floating trigger pin while your ordering (comes with the kits).  You might as well get more L springs too since they tend to disappear.  The slave pin is pretty much required to reassemble the decocker sear cage.

Good Luck,
Toby
