P-10 F Reversible to Ambi Mag release possible?
« on: October 01, 2019, 08:04:38 AM »
Hello forum! Maybe this should be in CZ custom, but I think here is most appropriate.

So I have been training a lot with my "old" P-10 C and it is my carry gun. However, I have been looking at getting a P-10 F that I will use in a level 2 or 3 OWB retention holster for rifle classes and the like.

I love the fact that the P-10 C has an ambidextrous magazine release. It makes single off hand manipulations so easy. Now, for some reason it seems CZ has quit putting the ambidextrous magazine release on their P-10 lineup. I am baffled by this. Looking into it more, it seems that people were complaining about stiff magazines releases. I did experience that initially with my 2017 model P-10 C but I just went out and actually shot it and it was fine, smooth as silk now. My newer 2018 P-10 C was just fine out of the box.

So here is my question. If I do wind up buying a P-10 F, can I convert the reversible magazine release to an ambidextrous magazine release by buying the parts listed below this paragraph? My concern is that when they went to reversible magazine releases they changed things in the frame, and that would mean it isn't possible. I am not one for modifying guns, but I want to do this for consistency in training between my carry gun and full sized gun. I'm just trying to be lazy and not have to train a different way with what is essentially the same gun, just bigger.

Unfortunately the frames on the "ambi" and "reversible" P10 models are significantly different. While anything might be possible, it is definitely not as easy as swapping parts. If you have access to a P07 or P09 model, you might take a look at their magazine release mechanisms next to your P10C. The "reversible" magazine release on the P10 models very closely mimics the design in the P07/P09 models.

Thinking outloud: to convert between P10 reversible/ambi magazine releases would probably involve milling the frames (pocket under the slide/trigger) and making a new "magazine catch system" insert.

If the mag release was a deal breaker, another work around might be running the P10F slide on a ambi mag release P10C frame along with some magazine extensions to bump up the capacity?

And that is what I was afraid of. It is really unfortunate that this is the case because I thought the ambi release was just fine. Certainly not going to attempt that, but I do like your suggestion about slide and frame. Thank you for your insight!

Why did you want to buy a P10f for rifle classes ?what's wrong with your carry gun for that?
IMHO, train with what you carry !
Unless you wanted to get into competition and use a larger frame pistol.

True, but I figured I could go with a full size handgun that was essentially the same as my C model and have minimal differences. The thinking was I am not restricted with an OWB rentention holser like I am with concealed IWB.

At any rate I will propably do what you said and continue with the C model.
