Bren MS vs BR
« on: November 08, 2019, 09:36:54 PM »
Hi there,
Please excuse my ignorance as I've tried to find this info and couldnt.
Obviously the Bren 2 MS is technically a pistol, and the BR is classified as a rifle, but what exactly is the difference? It's possible to get the barrel in 14" vs 16", and it appears to have a different butt stock but what else is different? Is the receiver different?

As I understand it, it's modular so is it possible to swap barrels later on? It's also possible to switch between 5.56 and 7.62 with some parts right?

If these things are true is there any reason to wait for the Bren 2 BR or should I pick up MS and purchase the other parts later?

Thank you!

Bren 2 MS is 5.56*45 or 7.62*39. Aka 5.56 NATO and 7.62 Soviet (not to be confused with 7.62*54 Rimmed aka 7.62 Russian).

Bren BR is 7.62*51. Aka 7.62 NATO which is dimensionally similar to .308 Winchester.

They are not the same and don't share any cartridges.

In other words the Bran 2 MS is sized for what is referred to as micro action or mini action cartridges.

The Bren BR is sized for short action cartridges.

The Bren 2 MS is foremost a rifle. The pistol version is primarily for the US market with its barrel length regs. The modularity aspect allows for switching between 5.56 and 7.62x39 by swapping out the upper and adding an adapter inside the mag well for the smaller 5.56 mag.
