Recoil Springs CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow Orange (#91764)
« on: September 14, 2019, 03:37:48 PM »
Just took delivery of this #91764, SP-01 Shadow Orange. In the case there are three extra recoil guide rods springs.  Two are in a plastic wrapper and appear to be the same as what came in the gun, however, these two springs and the  one in the gun are all slightly different in length. The other recoil spring is loose in the case, no wrapping, and appears heavier than the others .

Can anyone tell me what is the standard spring and what is the upgraded one?

Thanks

Seems odd to me they would put extra parts in the case without some description what they are

I'm hoping someone responds to this question as I also have this pistol.

FWIW I believe the weakest spring is 13 lbs. Surely someone knows?

There's an old thread about the spring weights on the Shadow Orange. I couldn't find it. Anyway, be careful on the interpretation, one poster had it wrong and was later corrected in that thread.

The old thread I'm thinking of also refers to hammer springs.

Stuart do you know or can find out?

I sent an email to Stuart asking him the same question. Stuart responded "CZ doesn't explain what the different springs are weight  wise' only way is to install and get a feel if its lighter, heavier or same".
So it sounds as though it is CZ and not CZC that places these springs in with the gun. So at this point I will try to reach out to CZ customer service.

Heard back from CS @ CZ-USA. They state that the springs are put there by CZ UB so they sent an inquiry to them and now I wait for THEIR response.

Interesting that no one knows the answer to this question except CZ UB. Thank you for trying to find out. They can be compared with existing springs or I'm sure there is some technological way to find out. However, this knowledge should be known by those who sell them over here.

Received a message back from CZ-USA with the following: "the factory has indicated that this pistol comes with a recoil spring set (13 lbs and 11 lbs) and a main spring set (13 lbs and 16 lbs)". I then wrote back to CZ-USA and asked if there was anyway of determining one recoil spring from another and one main spring from the other because there are no identifying marks on any of them. I also asked what is the rating of the "loose" spring that came in the case.

And the response was "the heavier recoil/main spring should be longer than the lighter lbs spring. We did not receive any information on the "loose" spring and to compare it to the recoil spring that came in the pistol. My assumption is this would be a replacement recoil spring".

And the final comment: "the SP-01 Shadow line, including the SP-01 Shadow Orange, is a CZ-Custom specific pistol line".

Hard for me to comprehend how the factory includes parts/springs with a pistol with no identification.

Well, my SP-01 Shadow Orange came with two loose recoil springs and two loose mainsprings. They all have flat ends.

I would say that the recoil springs start at 13 lbs and go up from there. None are comparable with my CGW yellow 11 lb. The mainsprings appear to start at 13 lbs for the one in the center with the far right approximately 16 lbs and the hard chrome on the left up from there. Mine was not customized by CZC. YMMV

So in trying to figure out what these various recoil springs are, I did some measuring/counting and here are the numbers:

1. Recoil spring in the gun:             34 coils, wire thickness is 1.09
2. Loose recoil spring in the case:   32 coils, wire thickness is 1.07
3. One of two recoil springs in bag: 30 coils, wire thickness is 1.04
4. Other recoil spring in bag:          29 coils, wire thickness is 1.00

From those measurements, it appear the spring that came in the gun has the most coils and the thickest wire.  I can only assume, because I really don't know, the lesser coils and thinner wire means lighter springs.

Hopefully someone with greater knowledge than I can weigh in on this and give some input.
