Private sellers shipping options?

Things being as they are, unless you're selling something expensive enough to make it worthwhile, I would try and sell at a gun show rather than online. I don't have anything I plan on parting with at the moment, but if I did that's what I would do, even though most of the gun shows I have attended weren't overflowing with good offers from the vendors.

I still sell my toys on GB.

but how i deal with shipping cost is to pass that onto the buyer.  The buyer will need to do their own work to figure out if its 'worth it" to pay for shipping.

Also, most of my toys are not in current production so its not like you can go to your local Cabelas and buy it OTS.   

i will do the work to (PRE) package, weigh and check costs for various shippers and to AK/HI and i state costs (estimate) and for the USA, AK/HI.  If the price is ALMOST the same for anywhere, then i will usually eat any small difference. 

but everyone will have their own ways of conducting a business.

Ah so the shipping costs sounds like a large factor why it is good to ship FFL to FFL, got it.

So when you had an FFL license did you ever ship to an individual instead of a FFL?  Is the process any different than shipping directly to FFL?  Did I misunderstand your comment?  Thanks!

Note that there IS a difference between LONG GUN and HAND GUN when shipping/selling.

there are also FEDERAL LAWs and STATE LAWs.

But for HANDGUNs, you NEED to go via an FFL.   If you go via FFL on your end is up to you.  But the receiver will be an FFL or have to go through an FFL.  this is of course non C&R and depending on your STATE LAWS.

For a rifle, you can SELL AND SEND to someone IN YOUR HOME STATE according to the ATFE - the last time i was an FFL, years ago now.  However, if your STATE LAWS differ, then you will need to deal with that and usually abide by the more RESTRICTIVE laws.

NOTE.  If you want to get it directly from the horses mouth, do so.  Call your local ATFE office and ask questions.   Thats part of their job.  You maybe surprised that they are there to help. 

at one of our gun shows, the ATFE actually had a table there and was answering some questions.  Many people shied away from them thinking they would haul them off for asking a question.  but i had a nice chat with them on various subjects.

That's what I did too, but found that posting the actual shipping amount was making it harder and harder to sell anything. The shipping cost, and the fact that ATF showed up at my door unannounced wanting to do a compliance inspection on the day after I had hernia surgery....was enough for me, I let the license go when it expired.

As for the other post concerning shipping to an individual within your own state. I have been told that you can and that you cant do so by the ATF. In fact my number one gripe about calling them with questions was that I hardly ever got the same answer twice. When the agent did the compliance inspection mentioned above, she instructed me to do things very differently than the agent who first visited me when I got my license. So I asked her if she would write down her instructions, so that I could show them to the next inspecting agent if he or she was again telling me to do things differently....but I was not visited again.

But stumbling around my house, hardly able to walk with a pain pump hanging on my side....making copies and fetching items for a compliance inspection? She offered to re-schedule the visit, but like I told her she hadn't scheduled this one to begin with, just showed up unannounced hoping to catch someone doing something wrong. So I voted to just get it over with.
