The first Sahdow?
« on: April 14, 2020, 10:45:15 AM »
I am interested in the model progression. When did the first Shadow model come out? The Pre-Bs had no Firing Pin Block. Then CZ added the FPB with the B models. Did the Shadows come out after the B models?
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

If I'm not mistaken, I think the 75 moved to the firing pin block in the "B" model around 1996. The SP01 and its shadow variant were after that. I believe the original shadow was around for about a decade before the shadow 2 came out a few years ago.

According to wikipedia, the SP01 was designed in 1999 and began production in 2001. It doesnt mention the date the original shadow was released but says 2016 for the shadow 2.

If I'm wrong I apologize, maybe someone who knows for sure or has some sourcing will come along and help us out here.

Thank you for the input Semper_P. If this is the case they added the FPB models and then went back to the non-FPB (Shadow) models. I am curious how different a Pre-B and a modern Shadow are in Single Action reset distance and some of the other trigger dynamics.

Surplus CZ models are not easily available where i reside.

I believe that they removed the FPB on the shadows and left out a de-cocker model, in order to keep the trigger pull as nice as possible.
I have a 1992 Czech surplus 75 "pre-b" that I absolutely love, and I just ordered and am waiting to pick up a new shadow 2. I dont have a trigger pull scale or any way to technically measure any differences in the triggers other than my perception but I'm curious about the same things you are. I'm assuming the trigger on the shadow will be shorter, lighter, and crisper since the 75 was a combat/duty pistol.

CZ de-cocker pistols always come with a firing pin block (design feature)

Per the Pazdera book, Legenda jmenem CZ, the CZ 75 SP-01 / CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical started production in 2004 after the marketing department came up with specs for a large capacity, high reliability, exceptional accuracy and robust pistol for police and military special forces in 2002. Prototypes were built in 2003. A few changes were made for production..dropping the ambi-slide stop/release and revising the shape of the rail.

In 2005, they started on a model for sport shooters without the firing pin block (consulted with Angus H, Adam Tyc and other experts in the firearms field) and introduced the CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow in 2006.

The B model of the CZ 75 can be seen as early as 1993. I believe the “transitional” pistols without the firing pin block disappeared after 1995.

Very interesting, has CZ come out with a book yet documenting the various pistols?

It appears to have the markings for a CZ 75 B design prototype per this photo from the Padera-Skramousšky “CZ 75 Zrozeni Legendy” (Birth of a Legend) booklet.
