CZ Tso 40 minor load data for 140gr SNS poly coated bullet
« on: August 17, 2022, 08:25:09 PM »
I searched and couldn't found any info on 140gr poly coated minor loads for my Tso. Outlaw falling steel match coming up in October and looking for 140gr minor load to shoot in Open division. I could use a shadow 2 orange that I use for carry optics but I already have the Tso setup for Open just don't need the major power factor for this match. Powders on hand are VV320,TG,AA#2,AA-5,AA-7 and Cleanshot. I can work up my own load just seeing if anybody has knowledge with this load and which powder they had the best luck with. Also trying to keep power factor around 135-140.

I've not tried any of those powders with the 140's.

My load is 6.5 grains of Herco.  Don't know the overall length.

I probably did load some with AA#5 years ago, but do not remember that load.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Not that I shoot a lot of 40 cal, but... I think you are left with N320. The TG is not going to help you at all. In my book, it's only real advantage is low price; everything else about it is problematic. And although I love the Accurate "numbered series" powders, they are not cheap to use. Typical loads for all of them are 35 to 50% greater than other powders in their speed range.

And N320 or N330 is also going to be the coolest shooting, which is going to reduce the tendency toward leading. That can be a handy capability to have when you compete with lead projectiles.

Just my 2 cents.

So If you don't mind me asking besides the heat from TG and potentially melting the coating what other problems would that powder cause. I was leaning towards VV320 or TG kinda wanted to keep my VV320 for my major loads because its so bleep expensive. But at the same time I want whats best for this load bleep the cost I guess.

Understand this... I don't presently own a 40cal and I don't want to represent my self as any type of 40 expert...

But I have shot pistol competition, and I know you want to eliminate all potential problems at the outset. Loading your own ammo should be used to eliminate shortcuts used by the giant factories, but if you don't pay attention to all the details, then handloading can just as easily end up introducing errors of your own making. This is the source of my concern.

• One of the issues with TG is the excessive heat, which can lead to barrel leading when shooting lead. Leading can make your accuracy totally disappear within a very short span.

• Another is "case fill". TG is a VERY dense powder and case fill can be an issue. Once a load was chosen, I'd want to do extensive testing over a chrono to make sure that velocities were constant, regardless of the physical position of the ammo.

All the best.
