Textured Grip
« on: January 11, 2020, 11:29:16 AM »
So, my one complaint with my polymer CZ handguns have been the poor grip texture on the back straps. It cuases my hand to slide around on the back. I like a lot of grip texture like the M&P M2.0 has. I was running Talon grips, but really the back strap was the only issue for me. So, found a company to texture them and they came out great! I have one more black P09 that I need to send the backstrap off and have done.

Can you share the company name and the cost per backstrap with the rest of the gang here?
In dog beers I only had one.

CZ 75B Matte Stainless, CZ 97B, CZ Rami BD, Kadet 2, CZ 455 American 22lr, CZ Canvasback Gold 12g, Beretta 686 Onyx Pro Trap 12g

That looks really nice!  I’ve always just used Talon grips on all my plastic frame guns and works great but also curious to know company that did this.

I did mind myself with a soldering iron and a round tip. Why by one do-it-yourself.

It was $15 per backstrap. The company is Battle Ready Arms. Send the owner an email if you want to talk to him about work. I contacted a few other companies, but I guess the job was too small, so they would not even get back with me.

As for doing them myself, I thin I will give it a try with the black P09. As for the OD green P07/P09 and the UG P09, I did not want to screw them up sicne the small back strap in those colors took a long time to get. I guess I could have practiced on the medium and large back straps, but I just sent them off to be done in the end.

I did mine myself as well.  I wasn't confident enough to try on the frame of the gun itself, but the back strap was 'low risk' for me.  My first one turned out so well, I did them on both my P-07 and my P-09.  It really makes a nice difference.
Thanks for the contact info though.  There are probably a few here that don't want to tackle this themselves.

I have also found that if you do texture it with a soldering iron and it's a little too rough, a good coat of Krylon Fusion evens out the texture.  Plus, you can add a pop of color!

Thanks for the info Claymore. $15.00 sounds like a good price to me.

.
I found if  it is  became more like a cheese grater texture I just rub it down with some 800 grit sandpaper to my liking. As far as screwing it up I don't think you really can unless you're looking for a specific design or pattern.
I myself just do random marks and keep moving around. And usually start out with a fine marker and mark points where I want to start and end.
As mentioned you can practice on the back straps you don't use.
For me it's not what anybody else thinks about it, I do it because it's needed because I have sweaty hands.
I'm very particular and it has turned out the way I like it.

The only problem I had with the soldering iron on FDE was that it discolored the plastic, leaving little burned spots all over the back strap.  It's not an issue on black but FDE or OD Green looked dirty when I got done, thus the Krylon Fusion.

I'm guessing they use a soldering iron with a variable temperature control.

CZ should just upgrade the P-07 &  P-09 with the P-10 grip. I’m sure it’s coming - it’s just a matter of “when”.
