Springfield P9 Ultra IPSC in .45 - pix added
« on: December 29, 2020, 10:24:31 AM »
I know a bit bout Springfield importing the early small frame Tanfos back in about '90, but thought they were pretty much 9 and some .40 . Came across a 45 for sale 5", bi-tone, ported barrel) and was wondering what the scoop was on them. Were these truly Les Baer models or of similar high quality? Any reason to but over other newer CZ97 other than fun and collectability? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I’m a clone junky. Never seen a P9 Ultra in .45, that’s pretty cool. Post a pic when you can, I’d like to see it.

The Springfield P9 Ultra IPSC Pistols chambered in .45 ACP are extremely rare and almost unheard of.
I knew they existed from other past posts here on the Forum.

Basically, these Pistols are based on the AE series .45 Witness dimension-wise and internal parts-wise.
Were I to be in the market, I would choose that over a Cz97B.  Actually, I prefer any .45 Witness over the Cz97B, handling-wise.
But that's just my personal preference.

Are there any sources anywhere on how many were made and when? I can't seem to find anything - especially about the .45. Thanks for any help.

Contact Springfield Armory and see if they will tell you.  They certainly have the production/sale records.

I contacted SA and will let you know what they say. Years made were 1990-1993 but not much info at all about how many, especially since the .45 seems pretty uncommon.  This is LNIB, with outer cardboard case, 5" ported barrel, etc. here are some pix.  When you take the slide off, it's obviously all Tanfo.

Feel free to leave any feedback/comments/helpful hints.  pix are here:  https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/16G6xZX1ju0JgIl-exPCSjftQX-V0DEwq?usp=sharing

Very very Nice looking Pistol!!!   8)   :)

So if I'm looking for grips what would be compatible?

Any Grips made for the Large Frame Tanfoglio Witness.

And which magazines?

Mec-Gar Magazines for the .45 EAA Witness.  Capacity is 10 rounds.

Note that while Mec-Gar Magazines made for the Cz97B are very similar, some have a thicker Floorplate and may not lock in.

Thanks in advance!

You are most Welcome!  :)

Thanks! I'm off to get some new or used grips for this and put the wood ones away.  And a mag or two, now that I now for sure. Happy New Year!

Any idea on a good contact at SA or source to find out more about these models - numbers made, years, etc.? I wrote to SA customer service but haven't heard back and can't find much online. Thank for any help.
