Shadow 2 dove tall mount vs milled dot
« on: February 19, 2020, 02:57:47 AM »
I am in CA so getting a shadow 2 or extra slide is a pain.

I recently switched to a cz p10f optic ready for local rifle pistol competition. I went from mid range rank to top 10.

I p10 is an amazing shooter but I know im more accurate with my S2.  The difference was the dot for me. I love red dots for this type of shooting.

So i want to put one on the s2.  If I mill it then I wont be able to use it for non optic ready matches or go back to factory of i ever sell it.  Anyone used a dove tail mount with great results?  Was it really that far higher then a proper mill job? Did you noticeably have to change your grip stance?  Did the added weight cause any problems cycling vs milled?

Thanks all!

I have a EGW dovetail plate mounted Venom on a SP-01 Shadow Orange (not a Shadow 2 Orange) and also have a milled slide/plate by CZC on a 75 Bull Shadow with a Venom and see no difference between the two red dot installations, either shooting or operationally. The only milled slide is the Bull Shadow which came as OR from CZC.

I also have (2) DW 1911s with EGW dovetail plates and Venoms and love them as well.

I have an EGW mount on a Ruger MkII and I'm very happy with it.    ;D

The farther above the bore you mount the dot, the harder it is to acquire. There will always be people who chime in and disagree, most of them are target shooting. It absolutely makes a difference when shooting quickly from a draw, that's why everybody tries to mill as deeply as possible.
If you were coming from shooting an open gun, it might not be such an adjustment.

The czc rds cut seems to be in the middle of height. Above a custom mill, and lower then a dove tail. But it looks like you can put rear iron sight back on.  Looking at this route as an option.

So I agree with what you are saying but then I was watching some youtube today.  And those pros with raceguns have their red dots crazy high on the frame mounts.  I wonder how they adjust to find the dot easily.

Well, those are pros. They practice the draw thousands of times. Believe me, if there was a mini red dot sight that would withstand the abuse of being mounted on an open gun, you'd see that on YouTube as well.

I have to agree with Earl.  I have used czs with both dovetail mount and slide cut red dots. My current shadow is cut deep so finding dot is pretty natural like looking at iron sights. The dovetail mount was hard because I shoot iron sight czs and the sight picture and hold is different. Try following the classifieds here or on Brian Enos Forum for a spare slide. I got my spare slide here on the forum.
