Hows the reloading market for 9mm 147gr at the moment?
« on: February 29, 2020, 03:59:06 PM »
I've been out of reloading a few years, but may be getting back into it shortly. Elections are coming up and whether people are paranoid or justified in whatever perceived road leads ahead, the market for firearms and ammo always gets bottle necked. Lets just call a spade a spade and leave it at that.

Right now on places like sgammo you can get a case of 147gr for around $180 - what are components costing you guys for that cartridge right now? Still worth the time to reload, or just get the supplies now and sit on them in an event people put a run on the market like they always do?

Coated lead 147gr bullets can currently be found for 6-8 cents per, primers are 2 to 3 cents per, add powder and you can load them for 10 to 15 cents per round. I prefer to stockpile components vs commercially produced ammo.

I'm not seeing that. the best I saw was Wolf at $209...

Very few 147gr factory rounds fit the CZ chamber. You're much better off to load it yourself.

Federal 147gr is about $186 right now when I googled it.

Does anyone know rough average cost per round if reloading a case?

Depending on a few different factors, like Hazmat shipping, sales, and bullet size. You can reload a 9mm for less than $130 per thousand. Your time is not included in the parameters.

sorry, but my numbers wont be anywhere near anyone else since i got my components years ago and i wont be buying for a while....like....

8# keg of bullseye/Unique for 92 USD
115 Gr FMJ, 2K @ 92 USD
primers 55USD/5000

67 USD/1K of round assuming free brass

 :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

If you plan to shoot/keep your guns, you may want buy and stockup some.  Not sure of your endgame, but guns without ammo are just expensive paperweights.  Ammo without guns, you can barter/trade since there will always be people that dont plan ahead.

Also - depends what you are looking for - something that goes "bang" or something that is the most accurate for your gun.

I can load VERY accurate ammo for about 12c per round in 9mm.  The accurate ammo purchased is tripple that in price.

For 223 - the my load is about 33-34c ea vs $1.20-1.30 ea.  But you can buy 55gr ammo for about 25c on sale with rebate.
Some trust in chassis, Some in Horsepower, But we trust in the Lord our God.

If it goes "boom" or "vroom" I'm intersted.
